The japan servers of the game are shutting down on 31 March 2020 (the article claiming that it was shut down December is a blatant lie) and Global servers are going to shut down June 30 2020, you can perfectly play up to that time, after that the game will no longer be playable, there's currently a petition to SE to keep it as a single player game, but pretty sure ain't gonna happen

As someone who had over 3k hours in this game, this still hurts, Season 2 was way better than Season 1 and every event and crossover bringed even more awesome music, the OST of this game is definitely up there with the Final Fantasy main series

Almost 9K hours here, despite being a mobile game, it had no PVP direct aspect but great co-op and competitive aspects, along with a farming mechanic to allow players to adquire paid currency with a monthly cap and areas designed to make farming of specific resources easier for no real cost. They will keep release the story content so global players will get to experience the ending on the very least, but it still hurts.

I really appreciate the sentiment Cole, and yeah, myself and the community didn't expect it to be so soon

Tried it when it first came out. Didn't like it.
I'll stick with Brave Exvius. I have WAY too much time, but no money, invested in that to quit now. Not wile the main story has not yet been fully released.

It was a gacha game yes, you got freebies pretty often to be honest, and of course many events (usually crossovers with FFVII/FFVIII/FFX and FFXIII That are stated to be cannon to the main storyline) that gave resources to pull more

it's possible to reach the end before the shutdown or it's too late if i start now ?

"Square Enix is shutting down the global version of Mobius Final Fantasy four years after the episodic mobile RPG launched.
The developer said the decision was made after many "difficult discussions," but wouldn’t offer a concrete reason for the move.
It’s only been a year since Square was celebrating the title reaching 20 million downloads worldwide, but now the studio is preparing to shut down the title for good after the Warrior of Despair story has concluded on June 30, 2020. Sales of Magicite, the in-game currency used in the mobile title, will be halted on May 31.
The Japanese version of the game has already bitten the dust, having been shuttered by Square back in December 2019. The company has thanked the Mobius community for their support over the years.
"We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all our players who have supported us since service began. It is with heavy heart that we must now bring you this sad news," wrote the company.
"We will continue to implement updates to in-game events, including the conclusion of the Warrior of Despair story, until the end of service, so it is our fondest hope that you will see our adventurers' fates out to the very last."
