2082 - perhaps the most annoying mechanism to "discover" games on steam

script goes through the first page, your eye glimpses something you thought was interesting, while you barely memorize the title "talez of sum kush" ... you enter it on search and realize nothing shows up - by the time you decide to check your browsers history for it, you've decided to market those cards you just earned, else there won't be food on the table tomorrow ...

steam queue? yeah nah don't like it, browsing it without a script - hell no nothing could be worse than that, automatism is the future and 2017 should be futuristic - but instead you're stuck browsing endless streams of garbage, powered by steam and fed to you by a half automated a script fueling the desire for food on the table tomorrow, or some digital dank trading cards you can turn into badges to impress some bugger on the other side of the planet ... idk but the future looks grim

I don't think using script for this is good for you. I've discovered that since steam introduced discovery 2.0 queues are getting better and better (specially if you often wishlist/block games while looking through them). The more games you block, the more "smart" discovery gets and starts offering you titles you'd really like. So... script would just ruin that.

I am over 9000 blocked and I still see zombie games, first-person shooter, and MMOs recommended to me. So far it seems the only reason it recommends interesting games sometimes is because I told it to not show everything else.

Did you add zombie and mmo tags in "ignore" list? I did that with VR and something else, I forgot what.

I thought you can block only 2.

My mistake. You can block 3 tags steamwide, and more in separate discovery queue settings.

In account preferences, there's a place to add up to 3 tags to block them globally. Then immediately under it, there are special links to block tags for discovery queue and new on steam.

No prob. Just remember, it's not 100% ignore as much as "try to show almost none of these".

Yep. And my first item on my current queue is Sniper Elite… -.-
(Too bad the amount of tags you can filter out is so limited. The old auto-queue script made for the 2015 Christmas sale had a feature to auto-mark certain tags. I have 33 tags on its list.)

A sniping game that is not an FPS? Sounds pretty… unusual.

Sniper Elite is neither of those tags man. It's action/stealth sniping simulation... in third person (except when sniping)

Yes, they never said they'll block all of the games with that tag, just that you'll see far less of them. I blocked MOBA but don't mind seeing one that's well rated from time to time, just to see what it looks like and so on. If I don't like it, just click "not interested" and it never gets shown again.

if you often wishlist/block games while looking through them). The more games you block, the more "smart" discovery gets

As you can see from the information provided on the queue page itself (quoted below), the queue doesn't change its generation in any way based off titles you have blocked. The queue is generated by overall game popularity, how new the game is to Steam, and its similarity to titles you have gameplay time on. Blocking won't affect the generation- if you want it to do that, put some playtime into the titles you want to see more games of the genre from.

How is my Discovery Queue generated?
The products in your queue are brought together from a variety of sources – new, popular, top-selling or similar to other products you have on Steam.

Are there any products that won’t show up in the Discovery Queue?
The Discovery Queue will not show any product that is already in your library, on your wishlist, or that you’ve seen in a Discovery Queue previously. It will also exclude products that you have marked as 'Not Interested' or have previously indicated that you wished not to be recommended to you.

Why are there some games from genres I don’t like shown in the Discovery Queue?
Everyone is different, and tastes in games change over time. We mix in products based on newness or popularity, in addition to games similar to ones you’ve been playing, to help you discover new things that you didn’t realize could be interesting.

Almost the same number and I'm also mostly using the Discovery queue features during sales... We must be doing seasonal sales for about the same time :D

I think most people that only use it for the free cards should have a similar number, since they only added them relatively recently :P

Right :) I forgot that they only relatively recently started handing out the free cards for doing the Community queue and that before that it used to be for voting on daily deals or other tasks.

I only use the Discovery queue during seasonal sales when Steam is giving out free sale cards for it.
Beside that there are already enough games that peak my interest I know about on my backlog without explicitely searching for more.

4329 titles viewed. 445 games on wishlist. I guess this feature works pretty well for me :P Actually it is true, I like to discover new games but I don't add new titles to wishlist as often as I used to do nowadays - seems I've already picked almost every classics so far and only new releases can attact my attention now :)

Also 40 titles hidden.
