So, today I received an eMail from Kickstarter telling me that I am now a "Superbacker" (see attached image. Yes, it came from a legit KS email address, I double checked that.)
When trying to find out more about this, all I found was some weird "Backerclub" website (which I won't link here, because it is most likely a scam) and this thread warning about the site
plus a similar reddit thread.
(TLDR: It appears to be some phishing website that asks you to login with your KS credentials. DO NOT sign up for this.)

This just for awareness.
Now for my actual questions: Did anyone else get a similar mail? Is it something new, or has it been around for a while and I just recently qualified for it? Why can't I find anything at the googlez or on the official KS homepage? Does anybody know details about this? (How many projects do you have to back to be eligible for this? What are the "events" they are talking about? Maybe someone knows what is yet to come?)
Yeah, a lot of questions, so have a gib as a thanks for your help :)

No potato option? You fool!

Why you don't sent email to KS support asking about that email? I'm pretty sure they should know something.

Because I hate bothering support with stuff like this. I'm sure they have a lot to do already, so I figured I might as well just ask here if any of you guys knew more about this before bothering them.
If the poll stays like this though, I might contact the superbacker mail address they provided, because I know there are quite a few active backers here, and it would be weird if I was the only one to get that mail....

Well, my post was actually about the (completely legit) Superbacker thing, that other site was just something I stumbled upon during my research. There are a lot of similar sites and KS staff knows about this, I just wanted to warn other users who might end up there trying to answer my actual questions :P

I've backed a lot of KS and I've never gotten a similar email. Perhaps because the email I use for KS is an entirely separate one from anything else? I would contact them and let them know.

Do not worry about bothering support. I am sure they would rather you be safe, then potentially expose their customers with phising attempts.

Yes, it's a new program that launched recently - only a couple of days ago from what I've seen. From what I've heard, the requirements are 25 items backed in the last year for over $10 each. If you check your public profile on kickstarter, you'll see a "superbacker" tag next to your name. Also if you post a comment in any kickstarter, you'll see it next to your name as well. So yeah, the email is legitimate.

(I got the email yesterday too :P)

awesome! Thank you so much for the detailed answer, exactly what I was hoping for :) You don't by chance happen to know anything more about those "Events", do you? Right now it seems like it's just for bragging rights ain't even mad :p, but I figure there is more to come in the near future.
Anyway, it's always nice to be appreciated, so I think it's a cool thing and I shall wear my badge with pride :p
