As you can see, Steam has a number of purchasable items that are over $300, singularity. Are you just unable to give these away here? has anyone ever tried?

You can give them away, they'll cap at 150 points to enter, though

150 points to enter, CV value is calculated normally.

Giveaway entry fees are capped at 150 points.

From time to time, a few imbeciles, who don't have the faintest idea how the site works, will try making giveaways for these, imagining that the Steamgifts fairies will conjure up a shiny new game for their winner once the giveaway ends and they will snag an unprecedented amount of CV, or alternatively they will set up a "giveaway" in the vain expectation that entrants in their giveaway are actually competing for the chance to buy this pricey game for them.

Frankly it baffles me that people can be so stupid. Even if the site were a magical fountain of free games, surely the briefest glance at the current giveaways, and the simple observation that it was not awash with AAA games and ludicrously expensive software should be enough to prompt a "light bulb" moment?

Anyway, that's somewhat off topic, but if some of these people's genetic material is allowed into mainstream circulation, humanity is all but doomed... :)

People don't generally make fake $300+ giveaways for those reasons. Usually it's just for CV fraud.

While I generally agree that games like Black Ops II are much more popular for these sort of misguided giveaways, I've seen both.

There were a few bogus GameMaker giveaways kicking around a while back, and some for other pricey applications whose names I don't recall.
