Fanatical should begin to worry, their bundles became so lame that people are barely interested in even commenting on them anymore. :-p

BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION is here, Mystic Vale's DLC and as a third I'd likely pick Those Who Remain, but a bit unsure because backlog reasons

Was able to get $125 worth of games for $10, not bad considering some were on my wishlist.

Thanks for the list :)

but the question is would you actually ever pay $125 for these games out of your wallet?

I tend to stick with only buying games I am interested in and plan to someday play if they are at least 90% off. The exception is for a game I'll play immediately, then I tend to go for 75% or better.

So I'd pay $12.50 out of my wallet for the 7 games I got, making this an even sweeter deal imo.

my thoughts exactly....

I guess this is true for most of us here especially "game collectors" with high backlog count. I browse Steam at least once a day and I've noticed that 95% of the game purchases are seen only and only during sales or during game/dlc launch. I've been using Steam since 2016 and it's very consistent. Really makes me wonder how many people really buy indie games on day one especially when the price tag is over $20 USD.

Steam activity tab would be filled with [your friend] owns [x] games during big sales event and publisher weeks.
Majority of bundled indie games OVER TIME like after a year or two have relatively very low review count and high ownership count (x number of friends own this game on Steam Store page) roughly indicate not many people play them. Why would anyone pay full price for tens of games if they're never going to play them?

I never thought anyone bought their "fake value trap". Many bundles do give a great value for sure but sometimes it really annoys me when Fanatical/Humble's marketing tactics make it seem like you're actually getting "$400 worth of games for $15" or "get 98% off on your bundle with 8 mega-hit games" and so on. Makes absolutely no sense selling your game for $2 or 50 cents if they're selling for full price. As for AAA games that aren't reach their saturation point after a year or two (typically games published by Ubisoft, EA and Square Enix are often heavily discounted at 75-80%).

Creepy Tale 2
Encodya
Those Who Remain

pretty sure these games are going to be available in a cheaper bundle further down the road. ($1 for one, $2.99 for 5 and $4.99 for 10). Also bruhhh they're dropping Steam keys for Encodya afterall, what's their excuse this time for GOG key in Humble Choice xDD. Shame they lied, could have just said they didn't want their game to be devalued on key seller sites.

They probably couldn't get enough Steam keys approved for Humble Choice. They'll sell a lot fewer units through this pick&mix than how many they would have needed to fulfill all Humble Choice purchases with Steam keys.

that would make a whole lot of sense if not for other shovelware games we've seen on Humble Choice over the past few years. If games like Paw Paw Paw, Colt Canyon, Effie, Cepheus Protocol can get Steam keys why were they specifically denied for Encodya? Afterall this is the same publisher that's selling Leisure Suit games (which have got less than 100 reviews in few games) and have been bundled numerous times with steam keys. Infact Lacuna, Endzone, Jessika bundled recently too.

It just doesn't add up...

You have a strange definition of shovelware games, not like I think these are the best games ever, but they are far from shovelware

these games are always the least exciting and least played by the majority. It's pretty evident given their value on grey market stores as well. This month it's Evan's Remains, Red Solstice 2, Police Stories and Nebuchadnezzer. You may like these games but you can't deny that most people are not going to pay $12 for these games especially if you're living outside US and Europe where games are a lot more expensive.

None of these fit the definition of "shovelware" though. We can agree that these are niche indie games that many people won't play, but they aren't low quality or asset flips and their developers clearly show they care for their products. You might want to find another term for describing these games that better fits.

Agreed, they are least wanted / not wanted - but their quality place them way over the shovelware category.

fair enough. Apologies. Also I should have been more mindful. Using that word to describe those games was indeed a mistake on my part. I couldn't think of anything else but yeah "niche" is a better word to describe such games I guess.

OPINION
My criticism is mainly about the stark contrast between quality and player interests in indie games like Stardew Valley, Firewatch, Hades, Hollow Knight, Rimworld, Satisfactory, Cuphead, Superhot, Don't Starve Together [Which Do Not Get Often Bundled On Fanatical] and then there are games like Paw Paw Paw, American Fugitive, Regular Human Basketball which aren't necessarily bad, it's just that they're simply not as "good" and "popular" as the former examples. I don't see any reason why these games are going to be valued at the same price either.

Apology accepted on behalf of the developers :D

I am sure, Humble and Fanatical would love to always bundle up only highly sought after Triple-A and Triple-I(ndie) games for 1-2 bucks per game. They have to get the publishers of these games on board though, which for most of them means the developer themselves.

And a lot of these games are rarely on sale let alone with huge discounts. Just check https://gg.deals/ for their price and bundle history. That is a decision of the publisher / developer and not the fault of Humble or Fanatical. The Rimworld dev for example has made pretty clear that he's not a big fan of discounts so it might take a looooong while for Rimworld to be that cheap.

true, most indie games don't do deep discounting and you can tell these games sell like hot cakes by just looking at the amount of reviews on Steam Store page (usually over 40-50k) with 90%+ positive ratings. Cuphead for eg. still sells for 30% off and yet sells incredibly well (worth it imo).

gg.deals is truly a life saver for me :D but man the most annoying kind of indie games imo are simulators and grand strategies. The amount of dlcs these devs make and charge you is insanity! These publishers pretty much take advantage of "We're indie developers and need money for survival".

These games sell a lot (and avg concurrent playerbase of such games is thousands if not tens of thousands in any given time) and people easily defend them because they love those games. Paradox, Frontier, Bohemia and SCS Software among others are the worst offenders imo.

And the worst part of it all is these guys are smart and refuse to launch a Complete/Definitive/Ultimate edition because they probably won't be able to nickle and dime their fanbase. One thing I like about AAA publishers is that they at least bundle their game in a complete package with all dlc and post launch content eg. 2K's Civilization V and VI Complete, Xcom 2 Complete, Borderlands Handsome Collection, WB's Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition, Injustice 2 Ultimate Edition, Hitman 2 Gold and so on....(for a cost of $8 - 20)

I really hope I'm not the one of those people who really get FOMO'd and I feel like a game is incomplete if I've only get the base game with 40 missing dlcs which cost $200 - 600 to complete. I personally like games like Planet Coaster and Cities Skylines but man it really get's irritating when they release paid $30 dlc. I've been avoiding games that trap you with FOMO since 2019 now.

I will echo the critisicm of other people here - "niche" does not mean "shovelware". Shovelware explicitly means "games for cheap earnings". There was one shovelware game in a Choice that I know of, Retrowave, which was a reskin of Unity made racer app for free. What makes it shovelware is that the devs made a lot of reskins of that one app, essentially selling one game (not even theirs!) many times. In comparsion, Red Solstice 2 is just an unpolished game that still tried its best to be good

This is now listed on ITAD: https://isthereanydeal.com/specials/#/filter:id/11200

I only want Beautiful Desolation, and already have the few other games I would want.

Fanatical's normal Slayer bundles are much better for me. This BYO seems weak by comparison. Easy pass for me.
