Hi SG,

You might notice a few updates to the discussion section. I'll quickly run through the changes.

  1. Bookmarks: When you view a discussion, you'll see a bookmark icon in the top right. Clicking this button will add the discussion to your list of bookmarks. You can access this list by using the Bookmarked page that is located in the left column, or by using the "Discussions" dropdown menu in the site navigation. You'll also notice when you bookmark a discussion it has a small icon beside the title in the discussion list to help you identify it. This icon becomes blue to notify you when a new comment has been posted since you last viewed the discussion.
  2. Sorting: On the discussion list you'll see a dropdown in the top right that allows you to change the way results are sorted. It defaults to "Last Post", which is what you are use to seeing. It also has a new option to sort by "New", which orders the results by the date the discussions were created. This might be useful if you want to stay up-to-date with new deals or puzzles. If you switch categories, the sorting will default back to "Last Post".
  3. Profiles: If you open a user profile, you'll see a new button in the left column that allows you to view the discussions created by the user.

now this is an update 🙋

edit: any way to remember the sorting option, so we don't need to click "sort" each time we navigate outside discussions?

Now all you need to do is make all of the idiots go away and the discussion boards would be perfect.

I think the text size of the new "Sort by: Last Post" button is a little too big (it's almost the biggest of the page) ...

You should probably give it the same font & text size as the one used for the "New Discussion" button to make it look better.

10 minutes into using the site today, and this update has already come in handy.
Thanks, chief.

FYI to users about impact to closed posts: Closed posts always appear at the bottom of any post list, or not shown if 100+ active posts fill the page. This happens whether search is used or not, and regardless of sort method is used.

This works well with some categories like Deals, but if there's some General post's question about SG functionality that an OP marks Closed because their question gets "answered", that can make it tougher to see the info that other newer users can learn from.

Example closed post within the past few minutes: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/t2Cex/price-glitch-deathgarden-bloodharvest#MPwCaB4

That closed post doesnt show up at all in the post list using any sort:
Category with default sort: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/deals
Category with new post sort: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/deals/search?sort=new

Example of search that includes closed posts: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/deals/search?q=Price%20glitch

Thanks for these new features cg! Bookmarks are especially wonderful.

Thank you very much CG! I would really really love if there was a way to get notification/ message when a new reply in
bookmarked topic is made, instead of it just turning blue in bookmarks tab.

This would be much more helpful, I still can't really see if new replies are made unless I check the link.

This would be something people would choose to enable/ disable of course.

just noticed that and found it handier than not having it... :P
still not what you're asking, i know, but this "subtle way" (cg words) is already something he didn't plan but he then added cause of "notifications requests"...

also true that, if you're already at
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussions/bookmarked
you're just a click away from "new replies".
guess it really depends on our use of the site, so that, imo, would be nice to have notifications (in Inbox) for Bookmarked Giveaways (<--my request :P)

Hide discussion pls. A lot of off-topic discussions are super popular but also super divisive so always end up the front page.
I'd like the option to hide those, let those people in that discussion do their thing, thus be able to see the discussion that I end up missing at first glance about things I might be more interested in joining in on.

allows you to view the discussions created by the user.

this might lead to the "necro thing". i also think that it might be more interesting than unuseful... like, can we, as The Community, take care of the "necroing" problem (that might occurs)?
