You don't need to do anything on phone.
Only tasks that actually take a little bit of time are groups, the rest you can just close after you click on the link then go back and click on continue.

I don't even wait for the pages to load before closing them.
But joining and leaving groups takes its time, steam doesn't load particularly fast over 4G.
