Guy adds me on steam saying he's great and everything, leave after I give him game and blocks me on steam. Fucking unholy morron It's already something that I give him a 20$ game, but for him to leave like that and blocks me... That's just mean, there's no other words.

You should remove the name of the guy, its against the rules, and probably its an impersonator

Did you check if he actually linked you his SG profile? Seeing how the last letter doesn't match, I'd say it's an impersonator.

I just don't understand why SG pages are STILL accessible to everyone. Why nobody fixed this ages ago. ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) You don't even have to have an account here and you can check trades and scam people.
Same thing happened to me... guy found me in trades section and took my game and blocked me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Comment has been collapsed.

Scammer makes an account with $100 value, checks out the trades. Then with another cheap account makes it identical to impersonate. Victim is lulled into false sense of security because SG page is only accessible to certain people..so everyone must be legit..right? It wouldn't help anything

It's not like they use their main account to scam, they could still see the trades then add people with their alt

Yes that's quite obvious. But it's like saying: "why lock doors of your house when someone can just lockpick or destroy them with axe and steal your shit anyway". It's not a 100% solution to the problem, but it at least discourages lazy and stupid ones. :3

But like fubarnocaps said, it can give a false impression of security to new users, they might be harder to convince that they got scammed by an impersonator ("how could he see trades if he's not registered"). It might also scare off newcomers if they are required to log in with their Steam account just to view a section of the website (some already think it's a scam with the website being fully public)

Can't really blame them for that. First time I was here I also thought it was just too good to be true...

But not even seeing a site before logging in using steam is definitly something that would put me off.

Download Enhanced Steam and through that you can check whether he's an impersonator or not. And whether they have a good reputation :)
That should eliminate most issues. Plus, don't go for trades that are too good to be true. They can come along, but don't be excessively trusting

love how scammers always link to their supposed steamgift profile out of the blue. Hey, have you seen my steamgift prolfe yet? You should totally check it out, here is the link, i am so trustworthy.

Sorry for your hard learned lesson though, but if a deal is too good to be true you should always be alerted.

Yeah and I've also seen quite a few that point out exactly how many positive rep they have. I've never seen a legit trader act like that...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Have you seen my SteamGifts profile?

This is the point where you say thanks and stop the conversation, also potentially blocking the person. I have yet to see any kind of trade-related conversation where a sentence like that did not originate from an impersonating scammer.

By the way, since it was a HB link, contact their support and ask them to revoke the key, because it was activated on the wrong account. At least he won't get anything out of it.

I don't understand why people scam others. To have morals so low over something as pathetc as a 10$ game.

Well, this case a 4-5 dollar one. Even though the bundle that Rust is in costs less than 6 dollars, the Rust keys go for these amounts.

Yeah thats the other thing I don't get. People pay 10$ (CAD) for Rust alone when you can just buy the bundle.

shrugs I don't get it as well, but I just made over €10 on selling two copies of it, while I paid €8.7 for the two Tier 2 packs. So, hey, if people pay it, then what can i say?

On the site there is a link in everyones profile that will take you directly to their steam account. So theres no guess work with if it is or isnt the person. Also do request/demand that people work out trades on the site. If they dont comment on my trade post I dont work with them on Steam.

Youre not the first and you wont be the last. Just learn from it.

I know how you feel. It is utterly dishonest and people like that shouldn't exist. But they do! My very first trade went bad and gave me no hope to continue using the website. I gave away a game and then the other trader went offline and never saw him again. The bad feedback I got from him still persists in my profile. After all this time sg haven't removed it. He went to scam other people of course, and still around unbanned.

Fortunately I happen to visit the forums, shortly after I met a couple of very nice people that helped me go through the frustration. Mainly @ghanembobsorrow, @MrFantastNick. They deserve my appreciation :)

Hope some good soul creates a good guideline for new comers. Make it sticky and very visible to everyone and maybe we would have less scammers.

I can only sadly say; Live and learn...If a person is not sitting as visitor in your couch, or you can not walk over to their house; don't trust them at all.

But, how come his feedback is so impeccable then? Even in the comments on profile there is "13 Jul, 2015 @ 10:14pm
+rep trustworthy when it comes to buying non-tradable games. polite and patient."

That being said; That's a scumbag right there that you dealt with...It's not "mean", it's just pathetic low-life chickensh't scummy

Make a support ticket, (https://www.steamgifts.com/support/tickets/new) and include the link to the profile/account you got scammed by (it will be in your Steam trade history/account history).

Don't be surprised it will turn out to not really be the one mentioned in the screenshots, but impersonator. ,,,Probably some sh't who even knows the one he or she impersonated, since they picked that.

Concluding "it's impersonator" right away? If nothing else, it would make Steamgifts able to ban the scammers profile, and if possible be on the the lookout for other report against the profile in the screenshots.

:1 99% chance the impersonator is already on the alledged scammers friendlist. I doubt they simply picked a profile randomly to impersonate
:2 The scammers link/profile could then be banned from being in on steamgifts.com
