That was because it wasn't a port, it was built from the ground up for the PC according to what I read. Their ports still suffer lots of issues and lack of interest from their part.

Apparently the Steam release of Chrono Trigger will be getting a patch to use the original sprite art, as well as several other patches. Hopefully this is a sign that SE is finally starting to realize that they need to put some actual effort into their ports in order to maximize profits. I don't don't know about you guys, but the poor quality control of their PC ports has resulted in me avoiding a lot of their games which I would have otherwise bought.
Now, how's about that Nier patch SquareEnix? ;)
