What's your favourite Obsidian RPG?
KotOR 2 was originally that made me avoid Obsidian for a good long time. I had a few characters in it, but it is still a game that feels like as if written by someone who knew absolutely nothing about Star Wars and its lore, or the game that this one was supposed to follow up. Plot holes, misuse of lore or downright going straight against the lore… name any basic writer mistake, KotOR 2 has it plentifully. And as a cherry on top, it managed to butcher the most memorable characters and replace the cast with a bunch of moping emo kids and a characterless leader who made Jedis by touching people. (I will never get over the mechanic where you train fully-fledged Jedi knights by asking a random person to be one.)
NWN2 on the other hand managed to turn BioWare's probably worst and most boring cRPG into something complex. Funny enough, it is also partly Obsidian's greatest problem, as Pillars of Eternity tries to use mostly similar gameplay elements they had in NWN2, only somehow in PoE they are more simplistic, dumbed down, broken, unbalanced, and boring. PoE is a good game in its own right, but since NWN2 exists, it is maybe a mediocre entry in the Obsidian library. Plus, well, PoE suffers from the same thing Arcanum did, that they are really trying to reinvent the wheel by coming up with a brand new roleplaying game mechanic from the ground up, and it just never works. Arcanum was utterly broken and it was easy to be invincible, PoE on the other hand is needlessly overcomplicated to the point I decided to take a break from it after Obsidian released the third rebalance patch during one of my play through, messing up the character's build completely TWICE. It was worse than a Blizzard game and their weekly re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-rebalances.
Alpha Protocol, I could never finish. I found it literally unplayable on mouse+keyboard as the hacking minigame could not be completed, so I never managed to get past the tutorial, despite investing several hours into that one tutorial minigame.
New Vegas is great and is a good contestant for best Fallout, but the terrible engine Bethesda forced on them really holds it back too much.
Stick of Truth is a wonderfully funny South Park game, but let's be honest, it is memorable because the original writers worked on it. Obsidian added very little, just a throwback SNES era style JRPG combat mechanics, which is so unbalanced, it is a good joke in itself.

Here are some fixes that will make the minigame in Alpha Protocol playable (just ini editing):

Have more of 8 playthroughs, none looks the same.

Sadly, it wasn't the mouse part that made it unplayable but the keyboard half. It moved so slowly that by the time I found the code, it was physically impossible to navigate there, as it moved so slow. And the game didn't recognise both analogue sticks on my Logitech controller, so I couldn't even try to use that just for these minigames. I also tried to look for trainers, but they only added infinite time for the minigame, which didn't help with me not being able to track down the code in the first place. Believe me, I put time and effort into trying to make this damn thing work, but I hit walls all around. =/

Wow, that's a lot of generous giveaways bump...
I really hope your lucky winners love RPGs and install those games, especially Knights of the Old Republic 2... :) There's nothing quite like giving your favourite games to people who just wanted a +1 and some trading cards...
Got the Tyranny preorder from WinGameStore, just waiting for the key... :) It wasn't cheap, but it was less than Steam wanted... :) Hope it's fun... :)

I love those guys oh so much. It's only natural that I almost died from hype attack when they announced their brand new RPG called Tyranny. I love each and every one of their games, especially KOTOR2 and Pillars of Eternity, but New Vegas is certainly takes the first place in my book. It's also my favourite Fallout game.
And they even made me adore something from Star Wars! The truth is, I never liked SW, it always looked a little bit simplistic to me, all that feudalism in space and talks of Light and Dark side. But KOTOR2, the game that questioned the basics of SW philosophy and showed the player that the existance of the Force might not be such a good thing was so brilliant I played it a dozen times or more. Such magnificent plot and polished characters! Brilliance!
So, yeah. Obsidians. Best RPG developer around.
Do you agree? Or am I delusional? Probably. But that is the nature of my fanboyism.
Here's a giveway of
Tyranny(Ru/CIS restricted).Update
As Tyranny's release draws near I think one meek fanboyims thread with one giveaway doesn't do Obsidians justice.
That's why I hereby announce an OBSIDIAN PARTY! I'm gonna give away almost every game that's been made by our Obsidian gods, including one additional copy of Tyranny.
TyrannyPillars of EternityThe White MarchFallout New VegasKOTOR IISouth Park: The Stick of TruthDungeon Siege IIIThose giveaways are public, but restricted to level 2. (Also, RU/CIS as well. Almost all gifts have been sent, but the OBSIDIAN PARTY is not over yet! Private Tyranny giveaway is still going!
Also, to spice things up a bit, here're two additional Pillars of Eternity giveaways. One is public, and the other is for the people in my whitelist.
