I asked a question to Support about if people in a relationship living in the same house are allowed to share accounts, since I couldn't find anything on their FAQ. I got what looked like a standard response, since it started talking about Steam Guard and proof of purchase, yadda yadda, none of which was relevant. I rephrased my question, suggesting they take a look at it again and not give me a default answer. Their response is to ask about proof of purchase again, so I play along and hand them the necessary debit card information.

Just got this: "Hello Jade,

I have changed your email address, reset your Steam Guard, reset your account password and sent the new login information in a separate email. Please login to the account using the new password."

headdeskdeskdesk

brb, changing password back to what it actually was

Steam Support's always been good to me so far, but with this amount of derp, I'm starting to understand why some people really hate them. Anyone else had a support tech (this one is Bruce) refuse to even look at your question?

Note to everyone: if you ever have a question but there's no fitting category for it, don't ever select "Steam Guard/Email Verification" like I did. I only just managed to turn the damn thing back on.

Update:

"Hello Jade,

We do not recommend sharing accounts, however it is not against any rules or regulations."

Update:

"Hello Jade,

You can use your account wherever you wish.

You may run into purchasing issues, purchasing from two different countries, but if you should ever come across an issue Steam Support will be able to assist you.

We do not recommend sharing accounts for reasons such as VAC bans, the account can only be logged on in one place at a time, etc...

If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you."

Hm, Steam support usually was always good for me except 1 time when they were simple bastards.

They are ridiculous sometimes.

I sent a mail about a duplicated key and added 2 screenshots including the key from where I bought it. Got a default reply asking me to provide proof of purchase. Sent the same picture again and they gave me my game.

They were way worse to a dude though. He traded for a fraudulently purchased game and it got revoked from his account. He mailed them and asked to get the game he traded it for back. They said they don't do that. Sent a mail back and told them about their policy for scams with fraudulently purchased games, where they clearly says they will restore the game traded for it. Without further notice, they just closed the support ticket and no game was restored?!? Opened it up again and asked what the hell they were doing (in a much nicer way), and they restored the game after it.

I had 2 months of circle dancing with them too. Had traded for a fraudulent purchased retail Key and used it on my spare account (to my luck!!). They wanted proof of purchase. I've sent them the screenshots of the actual trade chat and the screenshot showing the proof of purchase. Then they asked to send them all other receipt for the games I had.Did that and they told me they cant do anything for me. Account banned since half a year now...

To their defence: I've also had to contact them about 3 times for having a problem with my main account and it got solved after 2 or 3 mails.

I havnt used steam support before, but every support I have tried has always been terrible. I always, ALWAYS get some copy-paste BS response that doesnt answer my question. Even during live support I get this bs. WTF.

Why not have her log into your account (while your offline), download w.e games she wants to play and thinks she might want to play later, then go to offline mode. Then, you can use your account and she can use your account AT THE SAME TIME. Gasp

To answer the question Jade (can I call you Jade? Okay, fine, Falcon), I've shared a single Steam account with my two brothers on about five computers before we each got our own. The problems came when games I bought for the shared account with my own money couldn't be transferred to my new account.

By the way, does resetting the email, the password and Steam Guard sounds like more trouble than simply answering the damn question to you guys too?

Jade is the shortened name I prefer. And yeah, it sounds like quite a bit of hassle they didn't need to do.

You actually prefer Jade? Damn, and all this time I called you Falcon because Jade is an adjective in that context. FML

Pretty irrelevant question if you ask me, how are they even going to know who's using the account? I doubt they are going to give 2 shits either way if you let your gf play your games.

Obviously you're not going to be able to move games about to different accounts, but yeah. That's why you got a generic reply. They probably could have been more direct and personal. But on the other hand - you could have got this kind of information from the forums or google.

Sharing Steam with someone with different IP-region number can bring troubles. And buying anything on that account usually leads to ban. One friend wanted DLCs for New Vegas that wasn't available in our region so he given his steam to sister in USA, she bought him his stuff, and then he received temporary ban (and was lucky enough they didn't banned him totally, they believed he went to USA for one day because of work).

Finally got an answer.

"Hello Jade,

We do not recommend sharing accounts, however it is not against any rules or regulations."

Not sure if I want to even ask my real question after the mess this lead-up to it caused.

And it only took two days! If the question requires an answer with more than ~4 words it is probably not worth the trouble.

Finally got the answer to the real question, a mere six days after opening the ticket.
