Just had a notification from Steam telling me the game was removed from my account. Anyone else purchase it from IndieGala or BundleStars just before it was removed from Steam have the same issue?

Updates:

  • GAME HAS BEEN REACTIVATED

I got answer from DLGamer (excellent and quick customer service with this issue, reliable shop in my experience), they contacted Sega:
"It's an issue on Genba side which are managing all Steam code have encountered a technical issue, sega is already informed and are reactiving games codes accordingly to that problem
Activations codes will be reactivated in 24/48 hours."
I hope this helps and this issue gets sorted out.

I activated mine Jun 20, 2015. I have no idea where I bought it (but it was a key activation, not a Steam store purchase). It is still in my library, so far.

Edit: I bought it from Get Games Go, who went out of business in 2015...

Check your license tab and you can see if it's bought as Retail or from store :)
You can find it in the upper right corner in the Steam client by clicking your name pick account detalils & "View licenses and product key activations".
Then just ctrl+f and search for it :))

I traded one copy to someone.

If the game appears in

does it mean it hasn't been removed for him?

I just logged in to Steam and, you guessed it, I lost Castle of Illusion too. I'm not even sure where I bought it from at this point.

Green Man Gaming. Sent them a ticket now.

Looks like someone accidentally hit the "nuke all" button instead of just removing a few specific keys. Not the first time something like this has happened.

I decided to tick it after taking a screenshot. Not sure if it would affect the reactivation if left unticked.

Hey again, we've investigated the case and SEGA will be reactivating the keys within the next 24-48 hours. Sorry to anyone affected by this.

I won mine in a giveaway here (thank you ertitoagus!) and recently played about 2/3 of the game. I found the controls and checkpoint system so annoying that I'm not going to play more. At this stage, if they remove it from my library, it won't make much of a difference, but so far they haven't.

That section you're referring to is not THAT hard... (I used analog sticks as well as the other guy pointed out). Granted the Candyland stage is one of the harder ones and it took me quite a few tries to figure out the timing on the cookie waterfall but on the other hand the bosses are much easier than in the original version I played as a kid.

I had no issue with the bosses (at least until that stage). My issue was with the floaty controls which make this set of jumps very difficult (with and without analog), and to make matter worse - being thrown away to the very beginning of the level when I fail, instead of starting again the section with the jumps. I gave this game a fair chance. My time is too precious to waste on this. It's not like it's the only game in my library.

You gotta keep in mind that the original version of this game was released in 1990. Back then games didn't have all those safety nets we've grown accustumed to nowadays. If I remember correctly in the original Mario when you ran out of lifes you were thrown back to the start of the stage (not level, stage). The controlls aren't great, I'll give you that but I don't think I'm particularly skilled at platformers, at least I haven't played any others I could think of in the last decade and I was still able to beat the Candyland level (still have to complete the rest of the game though since I stopped playing a bit after that). It's not like I intend to force you to finish this game by gunpoint. I just found your critique of this game unreasonably harsh and wanted to point this out to others who might read this.

How many more hours to you thing I should torture myself through this stage (and inevitably fail) for it to be considered valid criticism?

Complete the game and all achievements :D

I never had trouble with this, but I played the original. This was honestly easier. I have no clue what the game over screen looks like in the reboot. :P

If you consider it torture you shouldn't keep playing it at all. And I do consider what you pointed out valid criticism, I just don't agree with the extent of it. For example PixelJunk™ Nom Nom Galaxy has bad controlls, where every imput feels somewhat delayed but if the controlls in a game (even if they are bad) behave consistent I usually get used to it and after a few hours I often don't even notice it anymore.

But I'm probably cutting this game some slack because I played the original version with my sister on Sega Mega Drive when I was a kid.

That's exactly what I did and life is good again :-)

It's fine that different people have different opinions about a game. My review accurately describes my opinion about it, nothing more.

Ugh...that Candyland section was really hard for me. I can't imagine how it would have been just using a D-pad. I'm not the greatest at platformers either...though I did manage to get through the whole game up to the final boss fight-- which I eventually gave up on. So close.

That reminds me of the one part of the Supernatural Blooper Reel where Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki do a sort of "silent scream" montage. It was quite funny (as was the gif you posted).:)
