After more than a decade here, this is my farewell. Meaning, I'll delete my account get permanently suspended (at the end of this year since I wanted to join one last Christmas event). It's open-ended and hopefully not forever. However, even though I don't enter a lot of giveaways for quite some time, I like to hang around in the forums, that is, make me spend a lot time here apparently. I need that time, too. I know myself very well and I needed to burn bridges to focus in the past. This is one of those times.

The reason is, I'm entering a more serious period for my "game making" sessions. Honestly, I would loved to write updates about it on SG. There is a slight chance I might do that on BLAEO though. Speaking of which, I will need to leave these groups as well, since they require having a SG account: Playing Appreciated, Play a game you won on SG, Playing Matters, Giveaways for Proton reports, TalePlay, Unlicky-7 and SG Monthly Magazine. It's been lovely being part of you and I want to give you my sincere thanks. Thanks.

I'm glad that I got to know many awesome people here. Some left years ago (I know because my whitelist is a ghost town), some of them are new. Some of them are not with us anymore. It's a cycle. Well, more like a Fibonacci spiral, because it's never the same. That's what makes it beautiful.

Anyway, if you want to stay in touch you can add me on Steam, and I'll accept if I know you from the forums.

I initially planned to write more but I guess keeping it simple will be better.

Farewell beautiful people! Farewell until we meet again!

Wish me luck! <3

Update:

Ok, I weighed the outcomes and decided to get permanently suspended (it makes me smile when I read it, it's kind of funny.), a suggestion that I didn't think of. It's not decisive as deletion but it shall protect my threads and comments and blue hearts, which I didn't want in the first place, just accepted what would happen. I still did one thing that would happen with deletion though, emptied my blacklist. So, there is at least one clean slate. :)

Thank you for the suggestions. And sorry for the fuss I guess. Felt like Calculon's dramatic pause. :P

Always sad to see someone go.

I know I had to leave SG(and kind of ignore steam/bundles entirely) in the past for a long time since I kept spending money I didn't really have to spare for giveaways and on bundles... most of which are games I haven't... and won't play. Didn't quite need to burn the bridge though, just let other distractions pull hard enough and I will get dragged away(thanks ADHD).

Well, everyone takes it differently I suppose. These are like little routines for me. I know I won't get over them unless they don't exist anymore.

Well, ok, of course you know yourself, if bridge burning is needed, go for it. But do consider coming back once your game is "made", so you can announce it, market it, and make GAs for it! :D :D

Anyway, good luck on your journey. So long!

Cheers!

Any chance you can share some info about these "game making" sessions?

Also maybe instead of deleting this account, you could dovetail it into a promotional section of your life, that you can pay someone to manage for you.

I can only imagine it would be helpful for anyone creating games, and engaging with the public, and promoting your creations.

If you're willing to hear a little story?

Initially I started these around 10 years ago. I was always (and still) liked and interested in literature, I've written poems since I learned reading. I also write stories and sometime little novels. I want to take this a bit further and will give these stories a game (not all of them of course :) ). I'm more like a jack-of-all-trades person, maybe not on music part but I have someone for that so no biggy. I can write, draw, program, animate. So making a game was kind of a no-brainer for me. I played with different game engines until now. RPG Maker, Clickteam Fusion, GameMaker Studio (spent most of my time with this but bailed after they also turn into subscriber system even though I was not directly affected), and lately Godot. RPG Maker was a corner stone for me, since I wanted make an RPG. I still do, but it won't be my first game. If my plans will go accordingly, it will be like the 4th. Because it's a big project.

Anyway, about this game, the current one, it will be a sci-fi platformer. I even already planned the sequel, as a story at least. I believe this is a nice way to share my stories, an interactive way.

I can only imagine it would be helpful for anyone creating games, and engaging with the public, and promoting your creations.

I don't argue with this but only for the first one, I don't want to be influenced. Hope you understand.

For dovetaling, I didn't think about that but it's not something I would do anyway.

Thanks for sharing. I can understand not wanting to bother with the promo aspect of things, and the distractions/derailing it can cause. But it seems starting on promo of a project too late is what half of what causes people to fail, while the other half is not having enough resources to follow through.

But in the end we can only do what we can do, and i too need to trim my distractions in life, in order to focus on follow through on projects like you speak of.

GODOT is also what i landed on, after seeing how UNITY tried to start charging it's users per sale of their created works.
Which was super terrifying at the time, and i was thankful i never wasted thousands of hours learning Unity end to end, just to see how greedy they want to be.

I actually read too many bad stories about this on Reddit, and many worse. It's discouraging, but it's part of the bundle. I have something in my mind for promo, though I won't start that until I reached the middle point at least. There was a game dev story where some dev's project finished by some Chinese studio before them, they even copied assets and everything. The dev was looking for legal ways. It was hard to read.

I stopped using social media some time ago, though I only had a Reddit account to see some news at least. When the migration has started, I also left Reddit and now only have a Lemmy account. It's somewhat niche, but it has a some nice base for a game dev. I'll probably start with that.

If possible, trimming distractions is refreshing. Our minds need a fallow too once in a while. I hope you can continue your projects too.

Yeah, what Unity did was dirty but it was definitely good for Godot. They got some big donations after that, and many users fled from Unity. With Godot, we're not bound to some corporation, we can use it however we like.

I like little chats like this. From dev to dev. :)

It's possible to ask for a suspension. The default is 24 hours (used mostly when users report someone took over their Steam account to prevent any damage on SG). But it can also be permanent, and then the user can request to be un-suspended at any point.

You can see the reason "Requested By User" at the bottom of this page:

I had been playing with the same 2 friends almost every Friday for the past 6 years. Last year it started feeling more like a chore with moments of fun. I let them know about it, tried to talk strategies or changes that could make it better for me while being in the interest of the group (not often but sometimes we do get about 8 people online at once).
Well, these friends just ignored me and made fun of the situation. It hurts to experience that from someone you've been playing with for so long.

I don't play with them anymore and I'm enjoying my Fridays a lot more now.

Whatever you have to do to be happier, go for it, life's too short, try to enjoy it as much as you can and remove things that get in the way.

Farewell, good luck to you.

I guess as a human-being, we need things to be spiced up when it gets dull. And I agree, life is too short to get dull. Change is good, it reduces the dull part. There is a proverb here that roughly translates to this: "There is comfort in changing the environment." and I'm fully agree with it.

Someone else already beat me to it but I was also gonna suggest for you to ask support to temporarily "Permanently Suspend" your account. It's a lot less... destructive than outright deleting it. ^_^'

Feel free to ask me if you need beta testing for your game.

Yeah, it's an interesting idea. I have a month to consider it. I do not see this as destructive, though I must admit I would like an old-school forum style deletion, only replace the user name to something gibberish but leave what's written. SG doesn't have that sadly, thanks to GDPR I guess. Even though I have my consent. Well, I'm okay with this too since I don't have other choice and want to do this.

Oh, I'll need a lot of people for beta testing. I would love to have you. <3

While it is always a sad moment when people say goodbye, the important part is not to regret this moment but appreciate all the shared moments. Nothing worse than not taking a decision and let things drag on that don't help you at this particular point in your life.

If you later decide to return, I think you will find the people here waiting with open arms. 💗

All the best on your ventures, Mitsukuni!

I really understand that as I deleted my old account that I had for 3/4 years maybe and was 4/5 years gone from here.
But although not really important, I did slightly regret doing it, would like to have kept my stats/past stuff. So consider that.
But beyond that, I totally get the burning bridges as I tend to do the same to make sure I'll actually set out to do what I set out to do.

Good luck on your life affairs :)

I wanted to give you the same hint as PoeticKatana: Instead of deleting your account, you can ask Support to "permanently" suspend you. This way, you won't lose your history, whitelist, discussions, stats and so on if you ever decide to come back.
Being permanently suspended, you can still write to support and ask them to lift the suspension when you're ready to come back.

Like I wrote in the WL giveaway: All the best for your endeavors! I wish for you to be satisfied with your decision and the outcome of it all

I'll definitely consider this, and it might actually work for me. I guess this way I don't even need to leave groups too.

Being permanently suspended, you can still write to support and ask them to lift the suspension when you're ready to come back.

That's good to know.

I was ready to make a spoon or spoil a horn (found it on a dictionary while looking for a local idiom), learning that it might not be necessary is kinda relieving though. Suspended users cannot do anything besides writing to support, right?

Thank you Amano!
