So I've been trying to start a small collection of games (physical ones, my digital collection is big enough) and so I decided my target should be games that I absolutely adore. The best bunch so to speak.

Well, some of those games reside on the DS and the DS is... surprisingly hard to collect for, at least for me. The DS is region free, so it can play any game, from any region and that is amazing, seriously it's like one of the biggest reasons I got a DS. But there's a catch: If it's available over here in the UK, I want the PAL version, no buts about it.

You can call me nitpicky with that if you want (in fact there's a poll if you cba typing how much of a nitpicker I am) but that's how I roll. So this past month I've managed to get some DS classics, the Castlevanias, Rhythm Paradise, etc etc
A few days ago I found a listing for the Mega Man Zero Collection, f'ing A star, masterpiece! To put it shortly, my heart was ready. I noticed a listing with no description, so I contacted the seller asking if it was PAL. Yesterday they answered back with a resounding YES! I ordered it that instant.

It came today and it's not PAL, it's NTSC.

What a douche. Problem is, I had my friend order it as they had a prime subscription... they're now on holiday. I'm pretty sure I can't get a refund and I'm not even sure I want to go through a refund. So I'm stuck with this odd beast in my collection. So for the people who've stuck this far with me... do I keep it? Do I sell it to put money towards a PAL version? What do? D:

P.S. Sorry for any mistakes.

It was Amazon this time, although it wasn't from Amazon directly, just a rando using Amazon to sell it.

Maybe he did not know and misled you inadvertently. Or not, only he knows the answer.
I do not know how things are in DS, but for PS1 you needed convector and games from NTSC work on PAL consoles without problems and with normal colors (I hope I remember correctly, it was so long ago). So I'm not sure what to do. Maybe if you find PAL version first, then you can sell this one. If it is really so rare. Sorry, I do not know anything about DS

Well, like I said, the DS is region free. I can play the game using any DS variation or any 3DS variation. So it's not an issue of playing it, just an issue of collecting, since all my other games are PAL.

I wouldn't call it nitpicking. it's up to you to decide what you want to collect. If it made you write a topic about it, you're feeling bad enough with the game. So just sell it and buy a PAL version :)

Keep it until you get the PAL version

Yeah... that makes the most sense so far.

Problem would be I'd end up finishing it twice. But I guess that isn't "too" much of a problem. xD

You could finish the others one you get first, then that one for last.
Completing Rhythm Paradise at 100% is really hard

I think the worst part about that were those Guitar games, the one with the ghosts and that other one. It's been ages since I last played it so I honestly can't remember if I've 100%'d it or not.

Well, good as any time to check now.

Oh, I probably used the wrong term, it's just what I'm used to.

It's on the DS, so the games are essentially the same, no framerate differences here, no sir!

My fiancé suffer from small itches of OCD, some things bothers him other things doesn't. In the grocery stores if someone takes a Cola and mixes it in with the fanta's, he'll be the one who stops and puts the fanta back where it belongs.

Thing is, normal people will definitly say you are too nitpicky, but in the end: if it bothers you, even just slightly whenever you look at your collection. It's worth trading it out. Re-sell the item, and buy what you really want. or heck, give it away as a christmas gift to some young gamer that needs a lesson or two on what good games are.

Actually, I might just do that, I know someone who'd be more than happy to have this copy. I have no clue why I didn't think of that sooner, but thank you so much for bringing it to my attention! c:

If they don't play any differently (not sure what PAL and NTSC mean, I assume it's something about regions) I would just keep them. I don't see what the problem is, why do you want the PAL version?
Thank you for the giveaway :)

SELL IT!
I mean, I'd go for a refund in your case, but if it's too much of a hassle you'd be better of selling or trying to trade it for PAL version. Definetly do not keep! It's like an anti-OCD thing to keep and if I were you I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. That's how much it would bother me. But it's your choice so whatever generates your mass effect field...

I have every Pokemon game (apart from Go) and one of them stands out as a US import. It is Fire Red for GBA and I got it from Amazon and it wasn't supposed to be a US import. As it works I decided I could live with it.

Only keep it if you want to play right away, and just look for the pal version I'd say

Sorry to hear that. There seems to be enough wise advice in here, so I wish you good luck finding the PAL version! Thanks for the gib.

I feel your pain. This year I went to finish my Discworld collection with specific covers and one of the books I ordered came with different cover than what I ordered(also it was the cheaper version too so you can say I was scammed for a buck). In my case it wasnt worth asking for refund.

Anyhow roll a dice, ignore it and think whats better for your wallet and mind xD

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the case of DS games isn't the only difference between a NTSC and a PAL version just the cover?
If that's the case I would say play this one and continue looking for the one that you want, when you get the other you can add that one to your collection but use the one you currently have for playing. After all you just want a specific physical copy so it looks nice when you to put it in a shelf, you don't really need to play the same copy that you have for show. That's what I do with music CDs, I never open them since I only listen to mp3 and I can get those from the internet.

I hope you have money to spare, many DS games are a lot harder to find in EU version and will cost 4-5 times as much as the US version

Yup, It's going to ruin my wallet, BUT at least I'm only collecting the games I actually really enjoy instead of trying to get the entire library, that should leave me with enough change for a sandwich every now and again. xP

I wouldn't say you're too nitpicky. It's your collection so it's up to you what you want. You want PAL so you get PAL. Good luck with your collecting!
