GOTY 2018. Steam-Only, releasedate: 2018 WINNERS ARE THERE

For me, this year God of War is pretty much the only worthy contender for the GOTY. For Indie GOTY there's Celeste and possibly Return of the Obra Dinn. Since God of War is not on PC and I don't really see any PC AAA game which could match Celeste, my vote goes to this game.

The Council. In my opinion this game is under a radar. It's definitely fun to play and has interesting story that will pull you in fast. Yeah it's not AAA game and has some glitches, but nothing game breaking. I recommend checking it out.

Don't know why this game got so much hate. I get the whole Metal Gear debacle but it's a good game.
People boycotting it on principle because of the use of "Metal Gear" in the name are missing out on a pretty fun ride.

While I played it on PS4, I vote for Dragon Quest XI. Not only my favourite game of the year, but now my favourite Dragon Quest game as well.

Finished I (GBC), IV (DS), V (DS), IX (DS), Monsters (GBC), Monsters Joker (DS) and Rocket Slime (DS). Own and played at least a chunk of all of the main games (except X, though rumours of an offline English release make me hopeful) and about half of the spinoffs. I'm very much a fan of the series, to the point I imported most of the Gameboy Color games (though I need to replace Monsters and never found Monsters 2 in the first place).

Oh, wow. Well, if you've played all those, I'm even more impressed that XI is your favorite. Will definitely be looking forward to playing it some day.

I've only played I (NES, almost finished, but not quite), IV (NES, finished), VII (PS2, didn't like it at all), VIII (PS2, loved it but never finished), and IX (DS, really enjoyed it, but was playing co-op and stopped playing when scheduling conflicts arose).

At least you got to play originals of I, IV and VII. Those were never available to me. Had to get the remakes.

To be honest, I think you played the better versions.

For example the GBC remake of 1 has much better menus that make everything from talking to NPCs to searching the ground much easier and faster. You can quick save anywhere, graphics are better. Granted the remake's translation is much more childish, and the character designs were redone to make they cute, which doesn't really jive with the theme.

The DQ VII remake is I think strictly superior to the original. I couldn't stand playing the original on Playstation, it just felt too archaic, and the graphics were terrible. The 3DS remake looks and plays much better.

Nevermind, I don't think my pick Factorio qualifies as from 2018. I thought it turned 1.0 this year but apparently I mixed that up with some other EA game.
