Port Royale 3 - Pass or pick up?

It's a sequel to Port Royale 2, which is one of my favorite games of all time. PR2 was created by Ascaron and PR3 was created by their spiritual successor, Gaming Minds. However, neither this game, nor the other sequel that Gaming Minds produced - Patrician IV, was well received. The most common complaint about PR3 is a dumbing down compared to PR2. The devs are now trying to fix this by releasing the missing content as DLC. I'm not fond of this at all and will not be paying for it until they release a fully featured package at a redeeming price.

That said, if the premise of the game interests you, you should definitely get Port Royale 2.

As for Tropico 4, that was developed by Haemimont, an unrelated independent developer from Bulgaria. Kalypso is only the publisher for Tropico, whereas they own Gaming Minds.

As for related games, those would be the Patrician series and Sid Meier's Pirates. Once again, Patrician III is a safer bet than Patrician IV, but the latter seems to be a more solid sequel than Port Royale 3, so you could risk it if you want.

I heard that this game only has 1 machine install limit...
