Hey there,
I remember that a month ago i read some ting that said that digital property must be able to be resold.
I cant find the news article anymore.
This is interesting because steam should change there policy making your played games giftable.
This would be awesome for this site as well.

Any toughs or links? I want some more info.
Thanks!

I think that if it would be possible , a lot of steam users that got hijhacked , won't be able to restore there user because the hacker

will send the entire library to someone else and probably will create an offline account so he could play those games without charge.

If you talking about a system that steam could also restore the hijacked users games , than it could be a nice thing.

But still , the sales of each company will go lower because if I don't want to play anymore the game , I can give it to my friend and

he will play without charge, or that he will pay me money and not for the company

So at the end, my mind about it is that it could work , but steam should and would do a lot of rules about it , so you couldn't abuse

anything , and if it will go out and steam will do this , I think that they should do something like disable and enable for moving

items from library , because not everybody want to take such a risk about there library.

It would be cool if I could re-sell out of my library but that means lost profit to publisher.... I dun think they will be constantly selling at 75% off and giving games away if we could re-sell our digital games...

I still prefer buying at 75% off rather than paying full price and sell for 5-10 buck....

Maybe not full resale but a trade in would be a step in the right direction. Look at Green man gaming they allow trade-ins of their titles and still do good 75% of 60% off deals like steam although not as frequently. If it ever happened you would only be able to trade your games in for like 1 or 2 bucks maybe even less the same way gmg works

yup I would welcome trade-ins.... I think trade-ins would be great for both consumers(us) and publishers.... trade-ins will still require for us to buy that mean more revenue for them.... and we earn few bucks from games we are not going to play anymore....

Guys, guys, guys. You always speak about loss of profits for the companies or that Steam would be kicked out, etc. Care about yourselves. If people want to be able to re-sell their games. If customers will DEMAND for this. They must do this. People just... So that's why it will never happen. Not because there is some unbreakable rules.

Whats to stop you from copying it? such as including it in a backup of windows and keeping a copy of the digital content. Also, if you can gift a single player game...whats to stop you and your friends from buying one copy and gifting it around to everyone?

People would keep the digital files to play their games after they've gifted it... I run my Steam copy of GTA 4 outside of Steam due to some glitches. Someone could probably use that for piracy.

There's piratebay too...
And there's no difference, you don't have license to any of those games, neither 1 on steam neither 1 you get over piratebay. :S
I'm just sayin' :P I'm not pirating games.

Meh, I wouldn't pay but 10% or less for a used game. Physical or digital, well not on a PC. Maybe on a console where what you buy is what you get kind of crap, even then I have never paid more than 50%.

Actually this is a growing discussion in a lot of legal circles that will probably be coming to a head in the next couple years in the States. Digital Rights and ownership. Apple (Itunes), Microsoft (Metro App Store), Amazon (Digital Store), Google (Play), Steam to name a view. A lot of lawyers are talking about major class action lawsuits brewing behind the scenes about digital ownership. The biggest concern being addressed is people who invested 1000's of dollars in these media types (over the past couple years and will be over the next few years) is right of ownership. Here is one major example for dicussion. I paid for music apps games etc. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow are my heirs entitled to claim ownership? I personally believe yes. Trust me this issue will be hot in the news soon.

when you buy the game and accept the terms you are giving away ownership of the game for a subscription. If this ever happened I feel sorry for what will happen to the game industry and the people busting their balls making the games.

The industry would adapt. For example imagine that a majority of new AAA titles would be subscription based even though it would not even have multiplayer mode and it would require always on access to the internet like diablo 3. What would you do then? Not buy the game? Even now people say that games are too expensive or have drm and they still buy them. It would change for the worse for us gamers. We would not have any games to play for free after buying the copy but would have to pay subscription for all of them if we want to play ( think onlive - pay for playing )
