That's... Actually pretty interesting. Would definitely have to try it out if I ever get bored looking at the countless games I haven't played yet. Backlogs are evil.

I believe that all "systems" that are based around playing a few select games at the time are good for getting through your backlog.
I have all my (over 200, not so far from 300) games installed but only play six of them at the moment. If I didn't have any discipline and changed around all the time I would never get anywhere. Hard to follow the story if you don't stick to the games.
I'm a bit strict and only add games I've "researched" to my wishlist and prefer not to take chances. That way I only add games I really look forward to playing, so working on my backlog is a pure joy. I have 3-7 years left at the current amount of hours/week, not counting games added to the library in the near future.

I feel like I need a program or some kind of web system to organize mine. I need something on the screen to say "Download x game and beat it by this date (30 days later or something) and earn 1000 points". You know some sort of artificial award system to motivate me but also automate some of the options. Especially if it was smart enough to organize my games based on tags and pick games it knows I like based on others I have completed. I could probably create this web backend myself, but I'm a lazy bastard.

The term you're looking for is external leverage. Something outside your control that will punish you for your failings and reward you for following through. I thought the Playfire reward credit system had the right idea (money for achievements/playtime), but things like that are always exploited.

Sounds about right, and yeah I used playfire and raptr and all those but it wasn't enough. I think I need some dominatrix imposing female type to whip me if I don't finish in time. Then again I'd probably fail on purpose.

I'll take a look at that site, thanks for the link.

Counting both console (PS2/PS3/360/Wii) and Steam games, my backlog is over 300 games deep... At this point, it's too late for me. My only hope now is that one day, I will have children, and I will pass on these games to him/her to also never finish...

I thought you gonna play my games for me... bummer

Your method seems like work rather than fun. I would rather have the freedom to play whatever, whenever I want rather than work through my backlog like this. And for the record I never played witcher 2, and I don't think I would enjoy it much either. I still bought Witcher 3 and so far it's been fun.

Some folks really enjoy a highly-structured environment like that. Don't know why, though, but yeah.

Some method can help some people. While I also like having fun with games, I'm in the middle of like 50-60 of them. At least. If I can find / find out a way I can keep myself too, I could actually play them much faster :D
EDIT: though this is a little too complex for me. I put all point and clicks in category in library and started a random one. Only 34 other to go. If everything else fails, the alphabetical system still can work :D

I could never work with a system that complex. lol Plus I tend to be more... sporadic when it comes to what I play, and why I play it. Though I have been focusing a whole lot of my time onto the MacVenture games that I bought during the last sale. I should have those completed fairly soon.
Nice idea, by the way. Hopefully others find it useful.

Very good idea. +1! My PC recently crashed and I only installed games I know I wanted to play, games I haven't played before. Only problem is I'm not playing video games that much anyways at the moment but when I'm cravin some in the future I will remember your system!

I organize mine in a few categories. I leave the ones that have a chance without a category, and from time to time I go through them and if I find one that I want to finish, I put it in my "Play" category. The ones that can't really end (stuff like Clicker Heroes, Adventure Capitalist etc), I have in my favorites, and I have a category with all the ones I've finished, because for some reason it makes me feel more accomplished. But after finally remembering to connect my PS3 controller to my PC, I want to play them all with it and I'm way too lazy to plug it in each time..
Idk why I'm doing this to myself.

Steam Compressor ot whatever it was called automatically sorts your Steam libary with category tags. I have mine sorted by release date. Many publishers are slack ass or trying to pull a fast one and don't have the real release years listed, but you can just fix those few by hand.
So after having run that, I have generally been doing this too. Start with the oldest and work my way up to modern times, with a few modern ones thrown in for variety. Basically done with the 80's now (the ones I actually wanted to play more than a few minutes) and moving through the early 90's. My 100+ games on GOG really slows me down moving through time too.
