Would be cool if we could send private messages!

IIRC, there were some worries about this being abused by beggars and the like.

Limit it to level 3+ or so. It would be massively helpful

I have found using old giveaways for that purpose quite useful. Works perfectly as a substitute (as long as you are not blacklisted).

hmm interesting idea, but stupid that you have to bypass the system like that.

Good idea +1

Also would be good if we could set minimum level of people to receive pms from, for example if you set 5, then people below 5 lvl wouldn't be able to pm you, solves beggars problem.

At least a note when you are giving away the game to the winner at the win section. And the winner could add a note 'yay, key worked, thx!' or whatever. Lately I've been too lazy to add the winners, and just put in the key. A tiny message would be nice though.

Completely agree! Winner and gift sender should be able to communicate through SG!

Well, whenever I win I just thank the creator on the GA but this suggestion is much better.

"yay, key worked, thx!" - isn't that what the "Received" button is for? ;p

I just leave a follow-up message in that giveaway. It'll show up as a new reply and makes it easy for the giver to notice my gratitude.

+1 Had trouble contacting some one who won a GA, It was a gift, i added him in steam, gave him the gift, then removed him from my friends list only to realize that it was his first win and he did not know he had to mark it as received. Had to add him on steam again, wait 2 days till he added me then explaining the steps he had to follow.

If i only had a PM feature i could have saved a day or 2.

Having to add people on steam is just stupid.

a) Do you really think private messages will make a difference? Every forum has private messages
b) How will it annoy people? Are you afraid there will be beggers or such? There is always the possibility of reporting them. And if you limit private messages to level 3+ or so, I doubt it will be a huge problem.
c) It would be immensely easier than said reason

About a) server load will go up with/without a PM system, it's inevitable as more games and more gamers are added, and SG admins will have to handle it with the only possible solution - get better servers. So I don't see it as a real problem.

You can put restrictions to make it more feasible and less spammy, examples:

  • If both people whitelist each other.
  • Inbox/Send limit that increase with LVL (also gives incentive to contribute)
  • Put it under a subscription based model that eliminates ads and adds features.

I, for one, find it more comfortable to use the same platform for different applications rather than move to a different one.
Guess we'll just need to agree to disagree :)

Another vote for this idea. I participate in many forums that support private messages and the amount of spam I received over the years is negligible. It's a very useful tool.
