Dumb question: What do the colors mean?

I think it is based on the colors of their profile picture? Not entirely sure though!

EDIT: I just checked several people's profile and I do think it is based on the profile picture's colors.

Yes, it depends on the your avatar.

On the profile page it's determined by the avatar color, on the giveaway page by the giveaway icon color.
