Hey,

so I bought all the newly released EA titles on Steam (Crysis 3, Dead Space 3, Titanfall 2 and so on) and wondered why people complain.

It's working exactly the same as uPlay games always did.

Yes, you need to install another launcher. But launching the game through Steam launches game right away. It's not like you need to manually start it up in the other launcher anyways. So where are the complaints coming from? What's so bad here? I don't get it.

Have a great day!

How do you feel about other launchers running in the background?

Since I don't need to interact with them when running a game, it's okay.
I mean, as long as it's not the Epic Launcher..
Shut up t0b3berlin

Isnt most of the complaints about price?

i was curious about this. i didn't understand why everyone was excited when ea added their games to steam since you still have to use origin. i'd rather just do origin -> game instead of steam -> game -> origin -> game. is it pretty quick and do you even notice origin at all? from what i understand, there are no cards or achievements either? or do you still get the achievements on origin? i have origin but literally never use it. i try to stay away from ea in general.. couldn't tell you the last time i played one of their games.
i can tolerate uplay though.. i really like the club challenges/rewards. also i'm a big fan of their games, specifically assassin's creed, farcry, but especially trials.

Many of the newly added games do have Origin Achievements and also some of them actually got Steam Trading Cards.

Just so you know, I bought NFS payback on launch. Could never even install the game even after reinstalling windows. Had to install it on my sisters laptop and then move the files across. Unravel 2? Bought the origin pass for that game. Never managed to get it started. Downloaded the cracked version and it worked flawlessly. (Didn't like the game anyway). I just bought NFS 2015 on steam, which I always wanted on Origin, but never got it because of the problems I had with Payback. Lets hope it works better from steam. If not, I have no plans to ever purchase any EA game ever.

Their store is annoying to buy from as well. No reviews, no proper announcements. No easy way to see if the game is co op or not. I bought NFS: Payback thinking it was co op, but it was just multiplayer. Not co op like The Crew. And of course.. no mods.

And mainly, friend list is my thing. If I am playing an online game or even co op game, I like the possibility that one of my friends might see that and jump in my game. Not gonna happen with Origin.

Anyway, There are just too many reasons why I personally dislike Origin. And this is coming from someone who actually purchased games on the client when it came out. I was not a steam only gamer back then, but they are just that bad, that I was forced to reconsider.

I bought 'A Way Out' on Steam, one of the games that came from Origin.
That game has trading cards on Steam, No achievements on Steam. You do get achievements on Origin though.
In terms of launching, it still needs to launch the Origin client, but it does so through the Origin 'light client' which isn't the full client, since I don't have the origin launcher installed. Pretty much it's like a little pop-up that sometimes appears if theres an Origin update or something, otherwise, It just opens up at the same time as the game, and runs in the background while you play that game.

It could be different for other games, but that has been my experience so far. Great game by the way, thoroughly enjoyed it, great cinematography and plot.

I have been using Origin a lot and been very active on EA Answers HQ I can tell you that Origin client has plenty of issues (personally I find Origin worse than Uplay)
And imho EA on Steam logically will help with some of those issues (mainly: Steam handles downloading and payment instead of Origin)
I don't have any EA game on Steam (yet) but I think I read that EA Steam version games use a lite version of Origin so all that will limit the hassle and headache you would get from using Origin directly.

what u wrote is correct plus the complaint I read mostly was the prices and most games at least the ones I checked were priced the same

I mean, my main problem's just having a scattered library since I still haven't played Diablo 3, which I remembered I own again and which I'll forget I own in around 3 seconds after I post this comment, just because I don't use BattleNet. Plus, having more options for buying things is never really bad, I'd say. Also, quite a skewed poll.

This is why I signed up to GOG. Their updated Galaxy app made me stop caring about this issue.

GOG Galaxy 2.0 is really impressive, and has come a long way. Steam, Origin, Uplay, Epic, Rockstar, Xbox, and others all in one place.

In defence of EA - they sell Deluxe etc editions on Steam
Against of EA - most Deluxe stuff is bollocks, why should I pay extra for crap :P

Their deluxes versions are also cheaper in Origin in any of their sales. Take Dragon Age Inquisition for example, the price in steam is absolutely ridiculous.

as far as titanfall 2 goes, you can not seem to join their game through steam, you need to do it through origin, so the 'integration' needs improvement.

Honestly, they should allow people who own the games on their platform to redeem the keys or use it on Steam as well. That way your friends who bought the Mass Effect and Dragon Age Inquisition can play with the other people who bought these games recently.

If I'm going to buy an Origin game, I just look for the lowest price. If that's on Steam, that's fine, I don't mind two launchers. If that's on Origin, that's fine, I have no major problems with Origin.

its the same problem with DRM, why should I RUN a code that is not helping me the Paying customer
Steam is only forgiven for its features/prices
no one complained about Riot games when its features was useful, but they failed with the latest anti-cheat launcher

Also, having anything running other than what you want is a dangerous practice
soon all publishers start adding their own launcher (Bethesda, paradox,...)
and not all of them can code perfectly, adding more chances for incompatibility or vulnerability to your system.

i dont mind Epic or Origin (fuck you μplay)
but if i dont open them for features i want, then they should not exist

I simply don't want a bunch of launchers. all with different passwords, on my system. And I don't see why I should be forced to do that when I pay money for a game. Just because the publisher thinks it's great advertising because some people may switch over so they get more money out of it? Unless they can give me a reason why this is necessary for me as a paying customer I'm not interested.

Ultimately there is nothing I can do about it, but I won't buy their games unless there is a game I really, really, really want to play. And that rarely happened so far - I don't think I have a single EA game that requires Origin, but I do have a few UPlay games (which I played through, then uninstalled UPlay and forgot it exists).

absolutely agree. origin integration is perfect, EA games are some of the best games ever made and the prices on steam are incredibly fair.
i'm already adding all of their games to my cart

I might not agree completely but I dont see why people are complaining either since this only gives you more options to get the games you want.

I just didn’t like that unfortunately we won’t be able to migrate the games we bought at origin before, and we’ll have to buy them again! some such as dead space 1 and 2 for much higher values than those that were already in steam before !! but at least I wish I could migrate the save

So, you already have the game on Origin. And because it appears on Steam you feel obliged to get it again?
