TL;DR - Some giveaway stats, GA link on the bottom :)

Wanted to make this post sooner, but being procrastinator it took me a while. But as they say "better late then never" :D
So few weeks ago i did little experiment :D For 10 days in a row i made one lvl 1 public GA each day with same game hidden in plain sight in it's description(like this --> hidden in plain sight ^_^)

So here are the stats:

Game Public GA entries Hidden GA entries Number of times bundled
Grim Legends 2: Song of the Dark Swan 713 35 12
The Secret Order 2: Masked Intent 668 47 8
Queen's Quest 4: Sacred Truce 909 133 1
Chronicles of Magic: Divided Kingdoms 1269 140 1
Mind Snares: Alice's Journey 1056 59 8
Crime Secrets: Crimson Lily 913 56 7
Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom 1548 145 3
Kingmaker: Rise to the Throne 1275 159 1
Ghost Files: The Face of Guilt 912 110 2
Grim Legends 3: The Dark City 1016 76 6

Some people in comments said stats are depressing, that people entering them might be less attentive, using some scripts for easier entry or bots. Noone knows in the end :D
While doing the experiment one thing came to my mind. That percentage of people who notice hidden GA rises if game wasn't bundled many times, i guess people who play HOGs do notice more things. Only exception to that rule was "Lost Grimoires" GA since it was the same day as "Humble Very Positive Bundle 3"

Also some people(was too lazy to count them) left comments in public GA, but never made to the hidden one. Oh well, their loss :D

Level 1 GA - The Little Acre :)

Thanks for reading my rambling ^_^

UPDATE after the GAs:
As some of you have seen i did the same thing with the GA mentioned in the thread.

185 entered the main one, 162 the hidden one. So even people here don't read, but percentage is way better :D

I, and others, have done the same experiment in the past (I'm sure they can still be found via Search); the result was always the same.

As to the reasons; there are many. But it sure is a nice bonus for people with some reading comprehension. :p

I remember reading some of those posts and i know i haven't done anything new. Just wanted to do something extra with "1 public GA per day", so why not share the data :D

Don't get me wrong; I always enjoy these experiments and reading about the results. So please keep on going. :D

Interesting results. So 5-15% of the users read the description and entered the extra giveaway. That's more than I expected.

I guess if it were different type of games data might vary, since not everyone is into HOGs. But more popular game might bring more bots too, so who knows :D

Would be interesting to see the results for a similar experiment with community wishlisted games but that would make the experiment much more expensive.

I use ESGST script to be able to use enter button without opening the giveaway (from wishlist tab). But there are also options to show if there is a GA description and/or other users comments that can be enabled if you care

I use ESGST too, so i know how it works. At first it didn't show description, it was added later, but i remember there are still other scripts with just join button :)

The option to show the description was there for a long time now. It just wasn't mandatory like it is since recently.

you can complete your science with one of my test if you want
an invite only ga (6 days ga) for the game "Please find me" , in the description of the first ga i put a link like this for the second ga
first ga got 100 entries and the second only 43

I remember reading about similar experiments, so there is plenty of data around :)

Problem with putting an invite in another GA is if the public GA is low value or already owned.
I have over 10k filtered games.
Bots dont have filters and watch for 5 digit codes. Therefore the invite GA will have more bots than human ratio.
A better science is to ask everyone to post something to prove theyre human. Number of entries just shows reduction, not increase or decrease of bot entries. Check the percentage of replies between the 2 GAs.

I remember asking people to comment on one hidden GA in cakeday train a 1.5 years ago:

  • Commented and Entered (11 - 22.45%)
  • Commented but did not Enter (31 - 63.27%)
  • Entered but did not Comment (7 - 14.29%)

And as you can see there is still problem in making them reply :D So there is no way to get the perfect data :)

I wonder if HOG players are more likely than others to spot a hidden GA...

Giveaways of low quality games get low quality entries, this shouldn't be surprising.

And high quality games get even more bots since every bot have it wishlisted, So data is screwed either way :D
