answer the call, shout loudly 'CYKA BLYAT', then block the number with some third party app and move along.

They are probably expecting you to call them back and you'll end up paying a lot of money. I doubt that it's the scammer's fault. He couldn't know your number. Phone scammers aren't rare, so they probably found your phone from a list or something.

Why are you so afraid? It's a normal phone scam. Whenever you see a weird number, just decline. There were scams going on with numbers from Austria around here.

As I told ya, no reason to be afraid. The game scammer had nothing to do with those phone calls. Phone scammers are really common. They want you to call them back in order to get charged a lot of money, so don't call them back obviously.

I hope you didn't do those giveaways where you had to sign up for a "russian social network" where they asked for your number.

If you speak about vk, this is a very legit social network, it's the russian equivalent of facebook, and is very popular there.

KGB assassins are trying to track you down with a phone call. Don't answer. Destroy your phone immediately, burn your house down, and take a one way ticket to some obscure undisclosed location. Trust me, I'm James Bond.

You won't trick me again, James Bond!
I've caught on to your tricksy ways! :|

...and it only took three thousand thirty-three burnt down houses and a civil war for me to do so.
I do admit to intentionally burning down an extra one hundred and fourteen after catching on, just to make the final number cooler. :X

It is the one-ring scam. If you call back, it is a premium line and the minute wages are through the ass. It has been around for a year or so. They used African numbers initially, strange to see them using a number from their own country.

It's not certain that they are from Russia, the scammers can be from anywhere in the world, they might just have found a Russian provider who care more about money than staying on the right side of the law. Russia is well known for having major issues with corruption, and unlike say a Nigerian number, it might not get auto-blocked by your phone provider.

Not certain, just pretty likely. Most scam-related cybercrime groups are concentrated in the ex-Soviet countries, mostly Russia, Ukraine, and the three Baltic states. Even outside them, Eastern Europe is also strong in this aspect. If you bet on a scam likes this originating somewhere between the Eastern borders of Germany and the Urals, you will most likely win that money back.

If you're worried about it, do any number of the following:

  1. File a police report
  2. Change your number
  3. Make an SMS bot that spam texts the living shi* out of them
  4. Pay them a visit and drop off a little "present"
  5. Stop worrying and love the bomb

I had the same situation few years back but with african numbers. Just block incoming calls from other countries on your operator's site or contact with costumer support and let them do it.

I recently got a lot of phone calls from the UK. Ended up reporting them to their provider. Not sure if their provider actually did anything, but the 2 different numbers that have been calling me have stopped, so it's possible that the provider either just made it so that they can't call me anymore, or it might have terminated their account.

Thanks all for help. May I know how track numbers?

First thing you might try is just to google it. Also, try use some Russia phone directory, see if you can't find the number there.

I am not sure he can. 900-numbers in Russia are for mobile and pay-lines. 954 is not a mobile number, they stop at 953.

you are not getting called by a human, but a robot. you can never answer their call or talk/sms to anyone.

their trick is that they want you to call back, which will generate money for them. just never call back and forget it.

One time I had a persistent sales call from the same number on my cell phone, which happens to be my primary as well. So I did the only thing that came to mind finally. I put on chanting sounds loudly from youtube in the background, answered the phone and acted like I was performing a satanic ritual for the sales person.

Never did get a call from that number again.... Wonder why....

I never answer an abroad number I don't know, even answering could cost you money(collect calls). I deliberately hang up on persistant numbers and they usually stop calling ever again.

I am exactly what those calls are about. I have heard from lot of people who experienced it.

When you pick up the call, you will hear a girl speaking in your language. She will tell you that she wants to move to your country to earn money. She will ask if you can help her about it. She will send you her pictures. You will chat with her and become friends. She wants to live with you when she moves. She says she doesnt have money for airplane ticket and she will make you buy it for her. When the departure date comes, she will call again asking for cash telling that airport officers wont let her take the plane without cash. When you refuse to send cash, she says she cannot go back because her brother will kill her. If you send cash, she wont take the plane anyway.

I'll take a wild guess and say you have Russian sounding name or you have registered yourself to VK (vkontakte)?

So far scams I've received:

  • Moscow reroute number claiming he was some sort of investor working for one of the largest company in the Russia. When I asked for their website he said investing.com. He also wanted to call me through Skype just to present some sort of Powerpoint presentation. Nice try though.
  • I've won a Green card even though I've never applied to one. Required my credit card info to pay the deposit for creating the bank account. I played along and played dumb just to waste the guys time. He had this 'ze'- accent so most likely Russian.
  • They've called my grandma claiming it was me and that I need money quickly transfered to my bank account. Then they hang up, send a SMS with their bank account info and wait for your grandma to send them money. At least one of these scammers from Latvia got caught and faced jail for trolling elderly.
  • Italian, Russian and Nigerian numbers calling me in the middle of the night hanging up after 5 seconds calling. They also instantly hang up if you answer the call. They expect you to call them back to receive a bill of 100 euros. Too bad those numbers are now blocked by my operator. Nice try though.
