Steam has done lot of nice stuff... Still apart from times to sell cards haven't even used ES as it felt just too heavy.

Shame. It added some nice features in the search

Shame. Guess I'll have to research what functionality will be lost and if there is an alternative.

That's not true.

Also shortly before the January 31st deadline, a “stripped down” version of the client that performs only local (non-server) functions will be pushed out to Google Chrome and Firefox users that have installed the extension from those official repositories so that they can continue to function without getting server-related errors. Unfortunately this means they will also loose a substantial amount of functionality.

This reminds me of Twitch and the BTTV extension. They gradually took all popular features to the point where I only kept it for the custom third-party emote support and nothing else. Enhanced Steam is now for me more like a very useful and appreciated link-includer for the games' ITAD pages and user SG/ST/SDB/etc pages.

Dead for Firefox since October 2017, hope there will be an alternative.

It's not Firefox or Enhanced Steam. It's working fine for me. If it were a problem with ES on Firefox, there would be more than a few people complaining about it. There must be a conflict with some other addon. Maybe the people in that post should try and figure out what they have in common.

It's Enhanced Steam in combination with Firefox, works fine on Chrome for me. I'm not alone with this problem even if it works for you.

It's Enhanced Steam in combination with Firefox

Obviously it's not if it works for the majority of people. Only a dozen or so people have complained about it in that thread.

People are also complaining here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/enhanced-steam/reviews/

Istalled it again and it uses 33% of my ram for one tab, 32GB - deinstalled again and move on.

Five people out of 17,598. It must be Enhanced Steam's fault then.

I leave Firefox running all the time. I put my system to sleep when I'm not home or sleeping myself. I only reboot for Windows updates or driver updates. Firefox itself over time tends to eat up RAM, so I restart Firefox when I notice RAM usage is high. I rebooted this past weekend for Windows updates and Firefox has been running since then. I have two Firefox windows open with a total of 35 tabs open between them, 8 of which are Steam pages, and Firefox is currently using 2.6GB of RAM.

Your argumentation is flawed it's 5/16 and it just shows that it's not only "my" problem. Good for you if it works for you but there are enough people where it doesn't like shown in the thread and the link to the addon reviews. You can now defend your favourite browser addon again.

The addon page shows 17,598 people currently have Enhanced Steam installed, so that's 5 out of 17,598 people. You link to a post on the official Enhanced Steam Steam group where 11 out of its 12,952 members reported the problem. You claim the addon is dead because a very small number of people have a problem, and my "argumentation" is flawed?

I never said you don't have a problem with it, I'm simply pointing out that the problem most likely is not with Enhanced Steam or Firefox when such a small number of people have a problem with it. You've probably got another addon or program installed that is conflicting with it. I already suggested you go back to that forum post and find out what all you have in common and maybe you can fix it yourself.

I'm pretty sure not everyone who finds a bug or problem, complains about it in a Steam forum or writes a review.
Enhanced Steam is the culprit because I deactivated all other addons when I tested it several times. It's impossible to load my friends feed with ES enabled. So I deinstalled it and moved on.

People that don't have a problem with it don't go on a forum make a post telling the world they aren't having problems. Rather than just declaring the addon dead or broken because it doesn't work for you, why not try and find out why it doesn't work for you. It's obviously a very rare problem. As I've said, find out what you have in common with the other people, perhaps you're all running the same anti-virus or firewall. Have you tried refreshing firefox, or create a new, empty profile and see if it does it there? I've had problems with Firefox in the past and cleaning my profile has fixed it. If you have 5000 friends, belong to 1000 groups and follow 2000 games/devs/pubs, that's a lot of stuff for ES to process. Have you tried turning off features that only display on the friends feed?

It is broken on Firefox. When I disable it, the entire Steam page speeds up significantly. With it on Firefox, I cannot even load my inventory. Works normally on Vivaldi, but the Firefox version is busted.
And this happens on three different PCs running three different OSs (Win7/8.1/10) in different configs. Firefox+Enhanced Steam is always a slugfest, no other combo does it.

If it were broken on FIrefox and everyone was having this problem, there would be a lot more people complaining about it. It works for me on all my systems (Win 7, Win 10, Linux Mint 18, Ubuntu 16.04LTS), all using Firefox .

IsThereAnyDeal DEV: I will try to figure something out with Jason to keep ITAD integration working even in stripped down version.

tbh I only used Enhanced Steam last few years for links - ITAD and SteamDB on store pages and SG/ST/etc on user's profiles, and these can probably be replicated.

Don't get me wrong, ES was a great tool and it improved Steam immensly but like creator said himself - most of these functions already got added to Steam itself and there is no reason to keep alive such a big project just for a few niche functions that most of userbase won't need and which can be replicated in smaller addons.

IsThereAnyDeal announcement:

Keeping Enhanced Steam live

If you are a user of Enhanced Steam, you have probably heard that Jason will shut down its servers on January 31. What will continue is a lightweight, stripped down version, with only a local functionality.

Today, I would like to announce, that we will do our best to keep Enhanced Steam live. Thanks to Jason's decision to open source all existing code, we will be able to run our own version of the plugin relying on our servers.

You will hear more from us as January 31 approaches.

Nice.

One of the main things I use ES for is history of price, that can be seen directly on product page. ITAD own search function is bit wonky.
