Anyone here who use Teamspeak?

I just created a server but my friends are having troubles connecting to it. Do I just have make a server and send my IP address to my friends and they can connect it, right?

you need to forward you ports 1st, or no one will be able to join

I read about it, thought that you only need to do that for international server. Can I do it without access to the router? I am sharing my internet with someone and he does not let me touch his computer/ router at all.
