It's no longer platform where few friends join to have better voice chat than on Steam. Although Steam improved a lot due to pressure from discord I think.

If you use discord to promote games / projects, use to relay information about new releases, use as forum then it is obvious social media. Discord is now used the same way facebook groups or twitter follows used to be used. Only that it has more "perks" - like bots etc. that persuaded people to jump from other social platforms on it. Especially in the gaming industry.
