What does the key redeem, exactly?
http://store.steampowered.com/app/220700/
Does it redeem the base app as if I had purchased it from the steam store, or is it different?
Does it activate any DLC?

I'm not sure, but I think it is just the base "game." But don't worry about those "dlc." There are plenty of free resources made by the comunity to help you out (if you spent some time searching, you can find really cool ones).

It's the base version of VX Ace, the Luna engine comes in a separate key.

Vanilla RPG Maker VX Ace. No DLCs, nothing.
The only thing that came with it in the most recent bundle was the Luna Engine DLC, which was a separate key.

Do you happen to know what exactly this luna engine is? I got it, but I'm not sure what it is :p

Basically a "Menu Modification Tool". Pre-compiled scripts to aid with changing the various menus (Battle Menu, Main Menu, Inventory, etc.) when designing your games.

Not just Pre-compiled, mind, but adaptable in an "explained" way so you can (relatively) easily change the settings to your own designs and preferences. The link has screenshots showing off a couple of different possibilities.

You can do all that anyway even with the vanilla release, and probably workshop, but that's mostly from scratch.

There you can read about the history of Luna Engine, why was it made, by who was it made and for what reason.

If you bought it from the last Humble Bundle then you should have like others mentioned separate keys for VX Ace and Luna Engine. If you bought it from the bundle before the last one then you only have VX Ace.
