I recently started gaming on my Macbook Pro. Not the biggest pool of games out there, but a surprising amount are available on mac. Does anyone here use a Mac to play games on steam?

I do! I've never had a pc and I'm relatively new to gaming as a whole, I've got to say it's worked out pretty well. It probably helps that I'm mostly into indies, roguelikes and the like but I'm still thinking of buying a steam deck in order to play the rest of the stuff that's not available on Mac :)

Hey there, I have been gaming for quite a few years I have mostly been a console gamer since that is all I have owned until last year when I got a pretty powerful macbook pro. starcraft and counter strike were a couple of my first pc games as anything can run those lol.

I was completely shocked when I found titles like Cyberpunk 2077 was on mac, but disappointed when The Witcher III was not. I recently got dungeons 1 2 and 3 plus balatro.

How is that streaming service? After Gamepass raised it’s price by 50% I cancelled Gamepass. Xbox cloud gaming is weak and laggy at best.

The main issue I have is that when loading games, the Steam client says "loading user data" until I add a demo/free game/buy a game/redeem a key. This is a Valve issue as it affects other streaming services. This is only if you have 1500+ games

Outside of that, I do not have any issues. Played like 600 hours of Forza Horizon 4 all on GFN no issues.

Is that issue when using the steam app for mac? There is a Macos category on steam. It doesn't show up if it’s a 32 bit game until you to the store page, but there a lot of bangers on steam for 64 bit platform for Mac.

Oooh that makes a lot of sense. I can imagine trying run an app through what is essentially an emulator trying to run another one inside of it. I thought Geforce now had access to steam library.

Not an active Mac user, but I did try Steam while I had my hackintosh running, was disappointed to find out that developers who did have Mac versions of their games didn't bother them to support new versions of Mac OS, most of them being stuck on 32 bit which doesn't run on Mac OS versions past Mojave (released in 2018) as Catalina and above don't support 32 bit apps. (in the case of my library)

I have noticed a lot of alleged mac os games only being supported at 32 bit. my computer is only a year ols so most of those games wont even work even though you can download them. I tried whiskey, but the developer has stopped updating it so I cannot play CS2 or Witcher 3 or any half life and so on. I tried cloud gaming through xbox from my xbox account, but it is waaay to laggy and slow.

Thanks wigglenose for the list. Steam has a Macos category I have been using like mad the past few weeks. There are some real good games available on Macos I did get cyberpunk 2077 on a deal and My M3 Pro chipset is pretty powerful.

Thank you RobbyRatpoison I found out what one was last year and loved the name and the place in Maine, so I chose it.

I use both Mac and pc for my gaming, but surprisingly use Mac a lot more than expected.
I’m currently playing Röki on my 2017 MacBook Air, which while it’s not a powerful machine, still runs a lot of the Mac supported indie games I have been wanting to play lately.

It would be great if windows didn’t suck so hard. The end user experience on a mac is much better in my opinion. This is coming from someone who never used macs before last year when I bought mine.
