Help me dear SteamGifters!

My parents asked me to get some action movies for them, but my problem is, that I don't know any, since I only watch horror movies and series. There aren't many restrictions. It has to be "normal", I mean no superpowers, no futuristic setting, where everybody is a robot and things like that. They want something like Taken and Seeking Justice. Please help me, if you can :)

Well I can use Google myself, but I want good ones. I mean I want recommendations from people, who have watched it, and say that it's good.

Maybe because I don't want to go through all the crappy movies before finding the good ones? A lot of people understood what I was asking for, of course there will always be some trolls.

Almost! But most of those movies actually do have superpowers or futuristic setting. ;o)

Prisoners (2013)
Snowpiercer (futuristic setting, but action packed and no robots)
The Equalizer (2014)

The Raid and The Raid 2, also. - Best action movies of the decade.

Look, I wanted recommendations, not a list, where I can find all action movies on imdb. A lot of people were able to understand that I want titles, not lists. A few action movies, which were good in 2014.

Yeah it was wicked great! I was hyped for the entire movie, and I honestly don't remember when i felt that way during a movie for the last time.

Anyway, since Mad Max is well known to you I will try with John Wick. I didn't watch it myself (but I will in next few days) but many of my firends said it's a very good movie.

I wanted to watch John Wick just for the sake of PAYDAY 2, but something always crossed my plans. Maybe I'll watch it tonight :D

I watched The Suspect the other day. That was a very good action movie in the vein of the Bourne movies.

Oh, and Zulu was surprisingly good, too, even if Orlando Bloom played a jerk... or because he played a jerk. I can't tell.

Seconding John Wick. That movie surprised me with how good it turned out to be.

Divergent is a piece of shit. Apart from being a total rip-off of The Hunger Games, having great actors that don't give a shit and just foam it in for the money (such as Miles Teller and Kate Winslet) and action scenes so boring they almost made me fall asleep, it also has the worst, most untalented and unlikable actor I've ever seen in recent years in action movies: Jai Courtney... The seuqel, Insurgent is even worse...

Shailene Woodley's lead performance is about the only good thing I found in those movies. Films so boring, mind-numbing and dull, that even Maggie Q's usual hotness seemed to fade away.

The 120 days of Sodom is a pretty good action movie with the added bonus of being suitable for the whole family.

This movie is a work of art, and I'm not even joking. It creates some really bothering questions if you think about it.

Anyway, I would recomend the book :)

I hear Mad Max is very good. Otherwise, I liked John Wick (if you ignore the ending) and The Equalizer. Run All Night was decent. Can't remember any others atm, but I might update my post later.

The Raid 2: Berandal
It has the best insane yet beautiful choreography I have ever seen in action movies. Iko Uwais is charming protagonist and unbelievable fighter. Quality of story comparable to Godfather (though some people would crucify me for this opinion:-). Awesome ride! First part is good, too, just weaker and without strong storyline.

The Raid 2. It's...absolutely AMAZING. They'd have to see The Raid Redemption first and the Indonesian language might be a little discouraging, but unless they have a deadly aversion to subtitles, I guarantee you it's absolutely worth it. It is better than anything Hollywood has done in the last years.

Other movies:

  1. John Wick- the story of a guy getting revenge over his dog getting killed (most awesome plot EVER)

  2. Run All Night - a better successor to Taken than the two Taken sequels ever were

  3. A Walk Among The Tombstones and Non Stop - other two great movies where Liam Neeson kicks some serious ass, although they are slower and have the feel of thrillers more than action movies

  4. The Equalizer - it's basically Taken, just with Denzel Washington instead of Liam Neeson

  5. Everly - who the hell ever thought Salma Hayek would be such a great action star?

  6. Mad Max Fury Road - it's a post-apocalyptic future movie, but it doesn't have super-powers or robots, just non stop FURIous action and car driving mayhem on abandoned highways in Australia's outback

  7. Fury - WW II, tanks and Brad Pitt. What more could you ask?

  8. The Hunger Games series - two of them are outside of the 2014 year limit you imposed, but I highly recommend them It's also the future, but nothing about screams sci-fi all that much... Maybe just the outlandish Lady Gaga outfits everyone wears

  9. Fast and Furious 7 - SHOULD NOT BE MISSED, it's ridiculous and stupid, but would they really want this series any other way?

  10. San Andreas - a Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson movie just as ridiculous and stupid as Furious 7, but oh...so entertaining...

  11. Sabotage - not great, but it has Arnold, so it's worth it for the nostalgia value

  12. The November Man - really nice spy thriller with the incredible ever young Pierce Brosnan, I highly recommend

  13. Survivor - it looks like Pierce Brosnan is nostalgic of the good ol' days when he played James Bond, cause he keeps on taking these spy thriller roles, although this one has the added benefit of having the extremely sexy Milla Jovovich in it and Pierce plays the assassin that tries to end her career

  14. Kingsman The Secret Service - probably the closest thing Hollywood can muster up to the hard R rated action movies made in Asia, with the amazing martial arts scenes

  15. Edge of Tomorrow - even though it has aliens and cybernetic battle suits, I urge you to show this to them. The plot alone will make them interested and want to see it: about a guy who relives the day from the beginning every time he dies. Like Groundhog Day, but with fighting, mutilation and death.

  16. Oh yes, and despite being a Paul Feig (director or Bridesmaids) movie starring Melissa McCarthy, Spy is a refreshingly good, even great action movie that should not be missed. It just has the added bonus of also being a great comedy movie. And it has Jason Statham in a role I can guarantee you they haven't seen him before.
    .

Movies you should totally stay away from and not waste your parents' time with, cause they're TOTAL CRAP: Divergent, Insurgent, Robocop (2014), The Expendables 3 (don't listen to what anyone says, it has NO nostalgic value), Taken 3. Blackhat, The Gunman, 3 Days to Kill, Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit.

Red and Red 2 are both good, they are newer but not quite 2014 new.

Also just go to Liam Neeson's filmography and work backwards from 2015, I guarantee about half of those will be what you're looking for :B1:
