i don't see a problem..

if you're fine with having a new friend, then you've got a new friend.
if you don't want a new friend, then give them some reason why you don't want them on your friends list and remove them. or just remove them without warning..

just don't give out your password :)

That happened to me before. Me and that person are friends now.

As others said, there shouldn't be an issue unless you go and give out your password or something.

There's only one proper course of action, of course:

Give him your email address, your email password, your Steam login credentials as well. Then, give him your home address, your credit card info., your ATM card PIN, your mothers' maiden name, and a copy of your passport. Then tape your eyes and mouth shut with duct tape, shave your head, and go lie down on the floor in a foetal position.

It's not fishy just get together and play a game of something or something, people get lonely on Steam sometimes and end up adding random people.

I met my best friend that way. Don't shun random people.

Edit: Oh yeah, what I think about this. I think this is more of being socially awkward than all that shy behaviour that is called socially awkward so often. :P

I get like 2-3 random invites a day, which I generally ignore...

Maybe I should specify "do not add me first" at Steam Trades.
