Oh, no. Screw this year. I just want to post my old movie-puzzle(yeah, it's a bit outdated) and make some gibs.
So, 1 week, all lvl-1 and the entrance somewhere here, One is for an easy walk, and one for journey into the unknown.

I liked Cargo.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I love when movies are about 1h 30m long (which is the case of this one, minus something like 8 minutes of credits). There's been a trend of longer and longer movies and I hate it.

I don't think I've even been to the theater yet this year lol.
Though, I am looking forward to the new Jurassic Park, Wreck-It Ralph, and Battle Angel Alita.

2018 was not that bad, after all, at least for me. 4 movies I really enjoyed in 6 months.
(Some of them may have been released earlier in US or other countries).

  • Call Me by Your Name
  • The Shape of Water
  • Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
  • Avengers : Infinity War

Got to go with
Annihilation (just a great open-ended film with a lot to think about and notice even during a second viewing)
Infinity war (well crafted action movie, I was worried they wouldn't pull it off with so many characters, but they did)

Bigger disappointments
Black Panther (plot holes, weak characterizations, bad fx)
Pacific Rim Uprising (retains nothing that made the first one great)

Haven't seen any Film from 2018 so far. Thanks for the puzzle. Solved the easy one but I'll gave up on the hard one. There are too many films I don't recognize (2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14).

The only 2018 movies I saw this year (in chronological order):

  1. Tomb Raider
Probably the first good video game movie. Since it isn't part of a cinematic franchise, it's not as ... let's say "big", as their competition. It doesn't have the budget of Marvel or Star Wars movies, but it is an entertaining ride and captures the spirit of the latest Tomb Raider games quite nicely. If you like these Tomb Raider games (or have played at least the first one), you will recognize A LOT and you will be entertained.

  2. Avengers: Infinity War
As a Marvel fan (I have seen everything that is part of the MCU), let me just say: HOLY SHIT, WTF, I WANT MORE!!!!

  3. Deadpool 2
What do you expect? It's freaking Deadpool. He's great, the movie is great. If you like Deadpool 1 (I know you do! ;)), then you will like this one as well since it's everything the first one is and more. I was actually surprised that the story is, well, more complex. And there are some well made emotional scenes. Apart from that, many jokes are just brilliant.

It felt like a a real life cutscene for the 2013 game. I am not convinced it was better than the previous movies though.

For me it was Shape of Water till now.
Would even say it was the best movie in the last two years.

It's a classical cinema movie with strong pictures and a great cast.

On the other side: I can't watch any super hero movies anymore... For me it's extremly boring and feels like 200x where every move was a teenage coming of age sex comedy....

Shape of the Water is ovetwhelmed with ideological context that press down everything, You know, when to mass-market(Oscar confirms) goes love-story of human and monster, where monster isn't some cursed(with chance to get rid of curse and become normal) Prince Charming, but a real monster, that's a bit sad. Like legitimizing zoo-porn at popular cinema. And it's not even some classic, sterile fairy tale for style. More disappointing fact that movie doesn't have anything except ideology, just primitive Ameli-like shots and empty script.

Well, it's a fantasy-movie like Pan's Labyrinth.
It dosn't want to be a "real story" so yes, it's all about ideology.
It's about being different (not in the "I'm so crazy and individual" way) and respect and maybe love the differences. The moster in this movie is not the "Amphibian Man" but the "evil human beeing". And it's far away from zoo-porn.

Anyway. We should prob. not go to the cinema together ;)

If it's all about ideology, how can be truly brain-washing movie be praised?
And that's the point about the monster in this movie. Beast is depicted as totaly another species and love to it not some platonic one, but sexual, so certain substitution of meanings comes up, tolerance is replaced by accepting(even complete excusing) concrete pathology(and yes, as it not some independent and specific film, but very mass-product - such pictire opens door for any zoo-porn movie. Because "Who are you to judge me? It's intolerance!").
And of course ideology uses some unfair methods. Usual white guy with classic family took the image of unexeplained evil person(He is asshole. Why? Who knows, just asshole and acts like total jerk). Very straightforward propaganda on the social background where there are no centrists, only over-agressive liberals with the South Park-like tolerance camp or primitive wall-building nationalist. Either ways are very dismal
But yes, I''m not best companion to go to cinema %(

I keep reading that silly bestiality "argument", usually from people making a big deal about the villain being a white man, while totally ignoring the other white men involved in the escape (I guess they don't count because they are either gay or communists?) but it's unsurprisingly a very 1st degree reading of the story. It's about the true acceptance of love overcoming differences. He's not a pet. He's a thinking sentient being with feelings and a conscience. Would it make you feel better if he was an alien instead of a fish man?

Of course other two will be ignored, because they are persons belonging to minorities. True accepatance of love overcoming differences? Oh, you don't say. I have question back. Would the movie be zoo-porn-lovestory if instead of Amphibian Man it will be very clever chimpanzee(with feelings and conscience. Some "greens" will say, that it's a fact of reality) and the movie will justify sexual practices with other species? And yes, in Shape of Water the monster isn't some kind intellegent alien(not Avatar-like, where Na'vi don't have that gap, but still main character ought to become Na'vi himself), monster acts more like animal - absolutely impulsive behaviour without any planning or whatsoever.
And main problem of this "movie". What will left behind all this primitive propaganda if smb tries to ignore it? Is there movie at all? Does this picture have anything else except agitation? Social advertisement with zero artistic value.

Being Russian makes you a minority?
If the chimp was sentient, then he is not an animal. We're talking about consciousness here, not whatever weird porn movie is going on in your dirty mind :P
The movie is not an afterschool special. It's not trying to "justify" anything. It's just telling a story. The lesson is in the eye of the beholder I guess and it seems for you it's all about porn and sex.
As for your characterization of the movie as "Social advertisement with zero artistic value" you are obviously (gasp, do not panic) in a minority and again, eye of the beholder. Most people see a fantastic tale of acceptance, you see a bestiality porn fest. People see what they want I imagine...

Communists, not russian. For American cinema-experience it's like some marginal minority. Of course this minority is the only minority in the movie that could contain negative image.
And I don't think this conversation will lead to understanding. I was talking about concrete movie and concrete situation, and reduce everyrhing to "just telling the story" is naive, just destroying any sense of dialog. 'Things are things and they doesn't mean anything". Or mean smth schematic like - it's just story of acceptance!
For me it's all about sex and porn? No. It's again just an attempt to simplify things. I was talking more about ideology. And love to image of positive "God of minorities" and complete Other - just one element, no more.
Am I in minority with my negative judjement about this movie? Yes, of course. For me cinema isn't entertainment at all for pretty long time. Hobby. study, occupation - yes.

Sorry my naive take on storytelling is destroying any hope of dialog. It kinda felt like you were in a looping monologue anyway so it's alright. Like I said, it's all a matter of perspective and your perspective is that it's propaganda trying to convince kids to have sex with animals for some reason. Probably because liberals are evil. So yeah. Not going to say I'm exactly surprised by the movies in that quiz. Takes all for all kinds. I'm just glad we disagree.

Great puzzle, i can't find all of them, but the first puzzle was hard just enough.... Best movie? Ready Player One was fairly good, it was "original" without putting any originality in the movie, super easter eggs, but the best for now it's Infinity War, though i still need to watch a lot of movies from this year
