I wonder if this will ever get released in other countries, I'm honestly not holding much hope by looking at the way it's going, wouldn't be shocked if google pulls the plug before a whole year.
I'm only really interested in Gylt cos the game looks nice and it won't be coming to anything else, and the game will go poof when the service dies so is play now or never.

I dunno about that. It's a self-published [ie, not Google-published] game by Tequila Works, and I don't imagine any exclusivity contract would hold up if its associated service dies (unless they really didn't read the contract at all before signing).

While it's a good idea for those interested in it to snap on Gylt while (or rather, if) they can while it's free [since, as with all games, we never really know what'll happen with them in the future], those who can't shouldn't have any real reason to need to stress over potentially being unable to play the game in the future.

This is further supported by the fact that Tequila Works creative director and co-founder Raul Munarriz already implied that it would likely only be a timed exclusive, when asked about exclusivity:

"Of course, we will try to make Gylt accessible for everyone," he told Eurogamer. "I guess it's not a design question, it's more of a business question. Today is not the time to answer that question but rest assured, everyone will be able to play the game".

Oh, guess I was talking out of my ass then. I assumed that since it was the ONLY exclusive it was permanently exclusive a la Nintendo published games and it would die with the platform like that one good Wario game for the Virtual Boy.

I signed up for the free trial, then immediately cancelled. Haven't used it much, but my subscription is still valid.

They recently sent me a promotional code for $10 off my next order. I went ahead and got SteamWorld Dig, since it was less than $10, and the code did work (paid nothing). I think I can keep the game after the subscription ends, but not 100% sure.

Anyway, check your email for a promo code, I guess!

Doesn't work for Canadians unfortunately. SteamWorld dig is $11.99CAD and the coupon is $10CAD, so no freebie. YMMV for different countries. Coupon is good till Dec 31, 2020, so maybe something else later.

I probably should have used that free 2 month trial more often. I liked GYLT and I played a lot of Zombie Army 4: Dead War and some of the Serious Sam Collection.

Stadia FAQ: "If my Stadia Pro subscription lapses or my trial subscription ends, what happens to the games I purchased?
If you stop your Stadia Pro subscription, you'll still have access to the games you purchased. Note that non-subscribers can stream games only up to 1080p and 60 FPS."

Gylt (Stadia exclusive)

Just great. Now there's going to be games that only people lucky enough to have incredibly fast internet in their area are ever going to have a chance to play.

And if the service ever goes down--or Stadia decides after a while not to offer old games because they aren't popular enough anymore--then no one will be able to play them anymore.

It's bad enough that when online-only games go down they're gone forever for everyone. But before now it's always been because the game itself needed the online to work, because that was an essential part of the game design itself.

Now there's going to be games that are artificially online-only, not because the game needed online in any way, but because it's exclusive to the platform. And someday, they will most likely no longer be playable anymore for one reason or another.

Making a game exclusive to something like Stadia is like building a sand castle near the ocean. I don't understand why a creator would want their work to be at risk of getting wiped away forever if the game by design itself didn't require it.

Stadia and exclusive are two words that should never be used together.
