https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/bDPx1/question-do-any-of-you-use-steamtrade-matcher-is-it-legit - original thread

i asked about this card trade site called Steamtrade matcher and people thought very highly of this site

I have since used it to get a deal for a card my son needed to complete a set - for the game killer is dead

So thanks for all the positive reviews on the site - the card comes in with a 15 day hold since we don't use the mobile thing (which is ok)

all i need to know now is:

The trade was with something called a trade bot

so what i needed to know is are trade bots ok and fine to trade with - i won't get my account in trouble?

Also when i scan on the site it comes up with the trades i can do - is it possible to add more trade bots (if they are ok to deal with of course) to get more trade offers as i need one last Steam 2021 Winter sale card to make a set and none of the trade bots i can access have it to trade (i tried a normal user but they don't have it anymore and i think it would be easier to trade with a bot if possible)

thanks again and sorry for being such a noob for card trading

I dont think there is any rule that states that you cant trade with a bot, if thats what you mean. Trade bots have exist for years and if it is not allowed, they wont be operating as openly as this.

I pretty much only use the bots on STM since (if you have steam guard enabled) the trades take minutes to complete. No need to wait for a real person to respond! Never had an issue either.

As an alternative, you could try SteamCardExchange which lets you 'trade' cards from different sets. It's a bit harder to work with since during busy times, cards can go out of stock while you are still trying to make the trade.

is steam card exchange usually bots?

It is all run by a single trade bot. It assigns a value to each card and you trade based on that value. So, a badge with 5 cards means each card would be valued at twice those of a badge with 10 cards. Then you create trades based on the value of the cards - if you 'overpay' then the bot keeps a track of your balance (visible on the site) which you can use toward other cards.

how do you get credits?

also does my 15 day wait period have any problems with trading with them?

You get credits if you offer cards that have a greater value than those you are trading for. As NazaSekh illustrated, you look up the value of the card you want, then you offer cards whose combined value is equal to or greater than the one(s) you want.

So if you want that 12 credit Drakoth, and offer two cards whose combined value is 14 credits, then you will get the Drakoth card and 2 credits in your balance. The next time you do a trade you can offer 2 credits less than the value of the cards you want as it will come from your balance. The balance is just there so you don't have to trade exact values.

As for the trade hold, I guess the risk would be that the SCE bot inventory may change over that period and so be rejected if it no longer has the cards you want. This is an untested theory, but a trade hold might not apply in one of the directions when gifting. You can probably offer cards to SCE as a gift (i.e. not asking for anything in exchange) which when accepted will increase your balance. Then you can create another trade offering nothing in exchange for the card you want - as long as your balance covers the value of the card it will be accepted.

You don't trade with people on SCE, only with their bot.
If I recall correctly, you can't send trade offers with more than 6 cards on each side. Also, you need to have enough credits to get the cards you want, otherwise, your trade offer will be declined. Say you want to get Drakoth, that one is priced at 12 credits. You either need to have at least 12 credits in your SCE account or make sure that the cards you're offering are worth at least that much. When you click on "bot inventory", you'll see what a card is worth if you decide to trade it to SCE and its price, if you want to get it instead.

I'm probably bad at explaining so, maybe you could just take a few minutes to read the FAQ and the guide.

Edit: aww crap, I had started typing when I got a phone call... eh, thoughtfulhippo beat me to it. :D

Hi!
I will try to answer all your questions. :)
Trade bots are fine to trade with. They are users who use some kind of software (for example ASF has that function if I remember correctly), which automatically accepts all 1:1 card trades for them. If you don't want to trade with trade bots, you don't have to, but keep in mind that you will have to wait till a user manually accepts and confirms the trade.
You can send as many trade offers to trade bots as you like, but be sure to always refresh the page first, so it will offer trades only for cards you actually have. (if that is what you mean by "adding more trade bots").

(I'm not sure about this, but you can check your own inventory to confirm it) Keep in mind that the 15-day hold may come with some problems, because (if I remember correctly) until the 15 days are up, the items stay in each user's inventory. That means that before you get your cards, someone else with a steam authenticator might trade for them first and then the items won't be available for your trade. (I'm not sure about this though as I already have the authenticator for long time)

But what you said can happen if you take too much time to make your offer.
For example (that happened to me few times already) I was doing a big trade with like about 40+ cards, and because sometimes bots can have huge inventory, it takes me ages to load it between each card. So after maybe half an hour I send the offer but the bot rejected it instantly because one of the card I selected at the beginning was already traded by someone else faster than me and was no longer in their inventory.
Had to do the whole trade again 😢
Now I split my trades in smaller ones, max 10 cards at same time, to avoid this from happening again.

STM have script for autoload finded offers in trade window. Just recheck cards after loaded window and send offer. Very useful.

Trade Bot status on STM

You can choose to have this account flagged as a trade bot. Trade bots on STM must comply with several rules in order to be approved:

Automatically and instantly accept 1:1 same game item trades, regardless of whether it's for a duplicate item or not
Have a 24/7 uptime.
Have an inventory of 500 items at minimum
Have their trade token set (see the public listing option)
Have no trade hold

You not get any trouble, it just usual trade via Steam service.

I use bots in 99% of my trades, because they have much more cards to trade and they accept the trades within few seconds. Now sometimes I trade with random users when bots don't have the cards I need, or I just wait and check if a bot has it later.
If you have a 15 days hold and trade with bots, I not sure that will work, did you check its profile to see if it accept card hold?
Also you don't need to add bot/people to your friend list, you can send offer just like that, using the link STM gives you.
And for the Winter/Summer sales cards sometimes there is a delay (few days) before they are added to the list of cards you can trade.

Ik this isn't technically answering the question, but I highly recommend adding the mobile guard. Not specifically for trade holds but because 2FA is overall much safer than just a really strong password. Especially nowadays with all the phishing scams going around, it's better to be safe than sorry.

how?

It's part of the steam app. You just need some sort of phone/tablet and can set it up through there.

Or if you're asking how 2FA is inherently the safest, it's because people tend to only use a few passwords across all sites. If one of those sites is compromised, people can log into most of your accounts. Here's a good article explaining the importance of it and check if your email was compromised in a hack.

Oh got it. That makes sense then, just be careful inputting any account information and check to see if your passwords have been leaked by other websites.

The aforementioned SteamcardExchange works that way, because you can sell various cards and get various cards. Additionally, there are trading card bots and groups who allow so-called cross set trading. Steamtrades and Steam discussions are a good place to look for them.
