I seem to recall that it gets marked as received automatically with these large dev giveaways. But I could be wrong here.

Yes, they were marked as received automatically. Although taffy may have been expecting an e-mail and not have checked his list of won giveaways after the keys were delivered - it showed in the list for quite a while like any other giveaway awaiting feedback, but since then they have been automatically tagged as received and the key made visible on the page.

no not email... go to the link in the green field which says you won - on the side which lists your won GA it's included behind the gamename...
there I found mine just seconds before after not finding an email
way to late... -.-

make sure you don't have an extra space that the beginning or end, and try again when Steam's servers haven't completely shit the bed.

No one complained about invalid keys until the last 15 minutes when Steam basically went down. I'd try again once community and everything is up and running again.
