I think he meant their newest games like AC Valhalla, Far Cry 6, Anno 1800 etc. So, around 3 years.

All of those weren't posted to Steam due to Ubisoft having given indication of having officially switched over to Epic exclusivity for their third-party client releases of new games [ie, Ubisoft games should now be restricted just to Uplay and Epic]. This stance was declared back at the very start of 2019, shortly following Epic's launch the previous December, and all the games you listed appear to have been released after that point. Thus, as you noted, that'd be right around 3 years back.

With that all in mind, and to address eternalhate's original declaration, it'd probably be more suitable to view those games under Epic release considerations, than Ubisoft ones, as the former'd have the dominant angle as far as the effects on marketing (namely, with the considerations of general Epic ooupons and rushing to go free having to be factored in, but also given that Epic key marketing is still primarily handled through Epic directly).

In support of that, if Google'd results and the deal sites I checked are accurate, Valhalla has gone down to $19.99 on Epic (not sure if that's including, not including, or outside of the scope of the regular $10 off coupons, meaning that this might potentially instead translate to $9.99), while I can't find record of it having gone below $29.99 (50% off) for the Uplay store. Given that this is a game from Nov 2020, 50% off is on the low end, given that there's a fair number of AAA games these days reach that after between 8 and 12 months (or in some cases, within 3).

Between that, and my recollections of Ubisoft pricing on past games, I haven't seen any real indication of Ubisoft games falling out of the typical AAA range (in terms of discounting more quickly than others) and, in fact, they're probably on the more conservative end (at least when not comparing to extreme outliers like certain indie games, EA games, or Square Enix JP games like the Final Fantasy series, but just to more mainstream AAA releases).

I personally don't know how good it is to play it, or player numbers, but sounds like they are cutting serious corners compared to L4D2, a game with which it shares a lot of similarities. (and at least by name, the developer studio Turtle Rock Studios)

The game is really fun to play trough once.
On easiest dificulty anyone can go trough it once just for the story.

The regular one is a bit challenging if you are going trough it with a smaller party (not the full 4 players ) using any number of AI players cause in some situations cause of the way the game is designed having an AI in the party is just almost guarantee to get you in really iffy situation.
That being said i still managed to beat the entire game without much need of restarting on that dificulty just with a friend.

Then there is the Nightmare mode of the game which is supposed where the replayability comes from. Which on release was just unfairly balanced and abslutely unplayable with random people ... so unless you run a party of 4 that thing is nearly imposible to clear.
Even weirder was because some people cheesed the shit out of it , they decided to nerf some things making it even more impossible in the process .

The way they patch the game is honestly questionable to say the least .
The new content is all paywalled behind a 40$(euro) season pass on top of a 60$(euro) release price just few months earlier ... Its supposedly 3 new chapters of story , on top of the existing 3(4) 3 plus a boss fight stage . Which may be allright but the game just doesnt feel like a 60$ game. 30 maybe ...but not 60.

Matchmaking ... is just a disaster , the 1 time we found couple nice guys to play with , the game decided to give them the middle finger.
I played with a friend from Indonesia , while i am in Bulgaria . And we always had him hosting cause hes far better at FPS so better have that guy with the low ping .
The 2 random guys we met ware also from the SEA region so we tough hey 3 people with low ping and ill play with my regular 300ish ping we Gucci.
Nope , for god knows what reason the game decided to use My region as host region and i have almost no ping whatsoever , while 3 people on my party had 3-400 ping each.
We tried several ways of fixing that , but it just kept happening .
We had that happen a bunch even when we Duo with 2 bots , game just randomly decide that it want to host itself in Eu and its flat out unplayable for the SEA player .

And last but not least the obvious compare to l4d2 ...
L4D2 is open for modding pretty much any aspect of the game . Stages characters guns etc . While in back 4 blood all that stuff is either unlockables for the skin stuff , or paid content for the stages.
l4d2 have its playerbase still cause of all the modding and custom made campaings for the game , while b4b hope people will play their game just out of the in game mechanics to enhance replayability they put in ... which are fun but it wont keep people playing the game for 1000 hours .

So yeah . Poor matchmaking and server picking , unbalanced gameplay , paywalled content and no modding .

Sad to say i regret buying 2 copies of the game at full price seeing how its already hitting 40 and even 50% discuounts just few months after release :/

Thx much for the summary.
I can see why people have been having so many complaints.
Looking further into AAA games getting discounted within a year, it seems the normal point is for them to hit 50% off within the first 7 months of release.

I believe Control was one of these, it was sooooo fast with it. Released on 10% sale, soon dropped to 50% and was given free on Epic. But it is really good game, bought it on release day and even when I played it year later, when it was free or cheap, I don't regret paying them almost full price.

It was released around october 2020 and was given away on Epic in 2021, two years it definitely weren't. But it was mindblowing for me, game was awesome and that price drop was crazy.

It kind of is like admitting that the original price was too high. Also not every game is gonna sell well, it's pretty much unavoidable that something has to do poorly. Other than that I don't have much of an opinion.

What game is in your mind? Some companies that do this fairly quickly are Capcom, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, Bethesda and 2K.

From the above PC gamer article from a few years ago, seems like the pattern has been for AAA games to hit 50% off within 7 months of release.

True, still after that point it become less worth it to keep waiting, you could be waiting +1 year just to get that extra 25% off, waiting that long for 10 usd less instead of enjoying right away may be yoo much of a sacrifice.
