I guess I am, if it's gonna be the thing, Nvidia will have to step up their game with hardware and/or prices. The more they fight, the more benefit we get.

AMD graphics cards have horrible drivers under Linux, and this one is about 10x the budget I can allot to a graphics card.

Might be a GPU optimized for SteamOS/Steambox.

Well R9 280X is for 300$ ...that's quite good bearing in mind that it got 6800 benchmark points.
But still, think I'm gonna save up some more for R9 290X :p

Are the memory clock numbers in the pic you linked accurate? Too damn lazy to check. Why is it so much lower than the memory clock on current gen GPUs? The core clock is also lower, but only slightly.
