Since I got my first tablet in Iran I have been gifting my old phones to my family there. Good phones can be expensive. I got my nephew and cousin a Samsung galaxy a06 128gb with six gigs ram for $92 in Iran last visit. I also gave my aunt my Samsung galaxy a50. They were so happy.

I hacked a wii I had and filled. It with games and gave it to my niece. I made an account on my ps4 and filled it with digital games and bought him Fina and gta v. He still plays it and loves it. I am planning on getting two switch lite and adding an r4 to both. Giving it to my niece and his sister m internet is not reliable there and games cost way too much. So I figure they cna enjoy games. I will also buy them two pairs of joycons. The third party ones. So they can play up. To five people if they choose. I enjoy gifting family. I am weird. Hugs all

What do you do with old systems and phones

View Results
Recycle them
Gift them to family and friends
Sell them
Keep them

I just let them sit around, collecting dust.

Old consoles inhabit a space in a couple crates. Every blue moon I'll bring one out with HD cables/adapters and give it a go for nostalgia's sake.

We trade phones around the family as long as they're working, otherwise we trade-in (to get a discount on new phone) or recycle.

Game systems we just keep using. If there one we don't intend to use anymore, I try to gift it to a friend (like the Atari Lynx). But sometimes I can't find anyone, and then I usually trade it in at a retro game shop.

Also, what you do doesn't sound weird to me, but extremely thoughtful instead.

I usually keep using the device until it stops working, at which point I buy a new one and put the old one in a box in the basement, with the intention to put it in the electronics recycle bin at some point in the future.

I keep consoles. Specially PS3 - you can use it to play PS1 games on all versions and ps4 sadly doesnt play ps3 games. Wish the ps2 back compat. was on all versions :(

I probably should gift one console to place nephew visits lot to kill time and enjoy older games.

I keep other old stuff too sometimes. You never know when you need them in hurry. Like old phones?
What if new phone breaks totally? Cant just walk to store on sunday and get new expensive one so better have backup for that..despite really rare.
Also picked up photography again, so I got my old digital camera from a ol' box too. Now if I found out how to transfer SD cards on new PC XD

On the plus side, the PS two (the one not much bigger than a DVD case) is a work of art. Only issue is having yet another device hooked up :/

I wouldnt mind that, but sad thing with old tech is that some of the parts start to be so old they are end of their life. I believe PS1 laser reader or something starts to be that now and soon ps2. I think there are new parts sold tho.

But first, I should get PS Vita =P

I use my hardware until it falls apart, is no longer useful or supported. The PC I replaced last week was over 10 years old.
I keep some things as a backup, e.g. an old smartphone in case the current one breaks.
I sell PC hardware for little money on classified ads. The important thing for me is that someone can still do something with it and it doesn't have to be put into the electronics recycle bin.

Give the phones to family or friends, kept consoles (all old gens), depends on computers. Gave a laptop but kept the old tower, was thinking of keeping it in case my new one has any issue to have a backup. Ended up being a good call as my gf now uses it to play when she's here.

I've thought a few times of getting rid of the old consoles, giving it away as I've done with most stuff I don't use. Ends up being clutter attach to you even though I partially treasure it.

Since I live in Brazil and these products (computer parts and older phones) are still expensive and have resale value, I resell them. The exception is if they’re broken or severely damaged.

Pretty sure everyone in my family has better phones than me lol
I don't really care about phones. If I can use it as a phone, set it to wake me up and play a couple of videos on it, I'm all good.
When I do get an upgrade though, I give them away to an organization I used to work with when I first moved here. They get prepaid card at a discount from phone providers and distribute them to women and kids they are helping out of abusive situations, many of whom don't have phones of their own as their abusers want to control who they talk to etc.

I only had a couple of consoles in my life, none of which were portable but I gave one away to my best bud's kid before I moved out of the country and the other I gave to a children's hospital here. I used to volunteer there to play games with long term patients and I figured they'd need as many devices as they could get.

I still have my Oneplus One for some reason. I had to use it as a backpack phone for a bit when I had to go through the RMA process of a Google Pixel phone. Oh and also when my Pixel 4a's (i think it was the 4a?) battery decided to swell up and bulge out the backside of the phone so emergency tossed it. Other than those two, my other phones have been used to trade-in or sell when I get a new one.

I still have an old Pixel XL as those still have unlimited google photos original quality backup which is handy. All newer Pixel phones were restricted to just 2 years AFAIK.

For anyone looking for ideas, there is https://www.reddit.com/r/androidafterlife/

For consoles, I still got my PSP kicking around. Mostly for sentimental value I'd say since with a Steam Deck, I have no use for the cramped size and screen of the PSP.
