Hello guys,

I just finished AC: Odyssey and I feel I am craving for another story action-adventure game and I can't decide which one to start.

I have played Batman: Arkham Asylum, but it was a while back. I think I could go for Arkham City. Half-Life I've never played and it's the oldest on this list. I definitely want to play this game as so many people speak about it. Dishonoured is another series I didn't touch yet, but is waiting in my library. Max Payne 3 is the only Max Payne I didn't play and I find it rather good too. Tomb Raider series I've not played, except the first one, so I'd love to experience the adventure Lara Croft has to go through.

On the other note, Yakuza series I've never played and I don't know how well together is the story. As for Dead Space, I've played the 1st and 2nd and I've enjoyed them a lot, I wonder if I would enjoy the last one of the series, although I'll be honest, I don't play many horror games, but Dead Space has a special place in my heart. Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2, I am also interested in and if that wins, I'd probably start with Red Dead Redemption on my PS4. Darksiders I've played, but not the 2nd and 3rd, so I'm interested in that series too.

As for Mass Effect, I've been a long time fan of the series and seeing it remastered makes me wanna revisit it again, although from all the ones listed, this one I know exactly how the whole story ends, so it's more about nostalgia. Watch Dogs Legion is the last one I didn't play and it's the closest to AC at this point in the style I should think, just more modern. The Metal Gear series I've also not played and I may have a difficult time getting the previous ones, but I'm interested in playing the stories.

I could also finish the Just Cause 2, although I feel it's a bit of a drag, and the story isn't its forte.

Last of the least, is to play the Witcher series, although all 3 of them are so different in style and genre. The most difficult thing about them is going over the 1st two. I don't know what to do. So, your lovely votes will help a lot to decide.

I've reached to the point where if a game is too repetitive and I don't feel the story, I don't finish it because I can't find a purpose in repeating tasks, so sandbox kinda bore me at this point in time.

What do you think? Your response means a lot to me!

Update: I have finished Dishonored and currently having 40.6 hours into the game. I've finished the game on pacifist side, so I'm left to get the achievements and play as the anarchist lol. I feel like I'm playing with cheats when I get to assassinate everybody, but oh well. I will update you all on how things went. Thank you for your votes!

What game series should I pick?

Batman: Arkham City - Game of the Year Edition
Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition

Dishonored
Half-Life

Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Max Payne 3
METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES
Red Dead Redemption 2
Rise of the Tomb Raider
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut

Out of the games i've played, it would be Dishonored. However, i would be very suprised if RDR 2 did not win this by a long way!

If Red Dead Redemption 2 wins, that means I'll start the 1st one on my PS4. 😉

Do you think if I would play Black Mesa, going to Half-Life 2 would not be a downgrade in the graphical experience? Oh and Happy Cake Day!

Not at all, Valve actually updates HL2 with better graphics quite often. The game looks very well nowadays. I actually went exactly from Black Mesa to HL2 (I somehow managed to never play HL2 before) and it was an amazing experience actually

That's awesome! I may ten just do that and not play the original then. It is after all too outdated.

I can really reccomend Batman Arkham City and in my opinion - it's even better than Arkham Asylum. Tbh it's one of my favourite games of all time. ;)

I finished Arkham Asylum a while back and I can't recall if I did finish Arkham City too. If I have, I may know the ending for it, so that leaves me with the last Batman, Batman: Arkham Knight. I need to just have a look to see if I can recall the setting.

I am a fan of the counter system from Shadow of Mordor/War and Mad Max. Two really good games... well three. 😅

I can't tell if Arkham Knight is better or worse than the previous ones, because it is diffirent in some ways. It has it's pros and cons, but overall it is still a really good game and the DLC Cold Cold Heart is just great. My favourite parts in all these games are Riddler's cases, the plot and just gliding across the city (or asylum) and I know that no one need to worry about them when playing Arkham series.

And also Arkham City happens during Christmas (Arkham Knight happens in winter holidays too, if I remember corretly), so I think there is no a better time to play it. :D

It will be a little struggle to play the previous ones and I'm hoping I can find a way through either PS4 or emulator. I want to experience the story of Metal Gear.

i don't like the ps4 game too i had problems with the precedent too in a level where must use sniper mode and sort of robot\dinosaur come then i not like but this is different more playable in my opinion, anyway dishonored and rise of the tomb raider is very beautiful too in my opinion, and dishonored if you like stealth it's the best, batman i play and liked the arkham knight,i don't know about the others not yet play enough for say opinion.

i don't know about the story o mg and not care much about it,but stealth is very good in mgsv also if personally i prefer Sekiro shadows die twice and splinter cell.

Sekiro may be a bit too difficult to just focus on the story. I want a little bit of balance in difficulty and storytelling.

Splinter Cell I've played them all. 😄

I voted for Half-Life since it's probably the shortest of the games you have listed. If you aren't sure of what to play, sometimes it's best to go through a short game until you can decide on what to play.

That's a really good suggestion. Thank you! I appreciate that!

AC Odyssey took me over 250 hours and after it was done, I felt quite empty and wanted to be distracted with a story. I tried going back to some of my other games that aren't yet finished, but most of them are either RPG or strategy at a slow pace and I wanted some action.

To be fair, I prefer linear games nowadays because most of them I've played have a really good story and doesn't distract you with nonsense grab quests and empty side quests.

All my listings are games and series I haven't touched, except Mass Effect and a little bit of Witcher 1, but really captivated me so either one or another I will experience them. 😅

Many of the games on the list are good, Tomb Raider series, Max Payne, Witcher, Batman, Yakuza.
But I have to point out the Red Dead Redemption 2, that game is just phenomenal, story writing is amazing, characters are really really greatly portrayed, it has A LOT to do, gameplay is great, animations too, graphically it can look really realistic at times.
Since the day it released on PC, I have it installed on my PC, never removed it, even after all this time I find something new, or some new encounter in the game.

I highly recommend it.

I've played a little bit the Online version, but didn't stick with it for long as my PC really struggled with the lowest settings possible. Now with my upgrade, I am hoping I can run it a lot better.

I do want to play the story and just forget about the world problems and work and all when I do.

Then its a perfect game to immerse yourself into it, and pull away from real-life a bit and just relax, and it will keep you away for some time, because its a really big game with all of the side activities and stuff to explore.
I dunno if you like racing games, but for example F1 series really immerse me into them, though in fairness I am a huge fan of the sport, but while playing F1 2021, I honestly forget about everything when playing, even though you have to be focused when playing, your mind is really clean from everything while playing.
But also if you are into Adventure games, and like to have some puzzles, I highly recommend Sherlock Holmes series, especially Sherlock Holmes vs Jack The Ripper, you will have to think a bit harder to find some stuff and solve some stuff, but they are really great games, same as Dracula 3: The Path of the Dragon, same formula, but different story and setting.

I've not played a racing game since Need for Speed The Run came out. So that's a while back. Racing games don't necessarily take me out of the zone, rather kinda stress me and makes me focus a lot on what I'm doing. It's good for tension, but I wouldn't really say I play much because most of them are waiting for me to feel in the mood to pick them up. I have a few in mind and I've been considering to see how Forza Horizon 4 & 5 is after seeing the hype.

I do enjoy those too, so I have them in mind to play them just for the detailed murders/crimes.

If you like rpgs, recently was released free modification for Gothic 2 named Chronicals of Myrtana: Archolos. It is absolutely awesome, nearly 40 hours in game and haven't even explored whole world and barely touxhed story line.

I loved Gothic 1 & 2. But didn't play beyond that. I can't remember finishing the games, but I remember having a lot of fun in them. I am excited of the reboot they have been working on. But thanks for suggesting this mod, I will add it to my collection and when I revisit Gothic franchise, I will play this after Gothic 2.

Do you happen to have Arkham Origins?
It's quite like A. City, but also takes place on December 24th, it's a fitting game dor the Christmas period :3

Otherwise voted for Half-Life, it's an interesting game. A very well done shooter that doesn't feel that special - because it set so many standards for the genre. PS: Dishonored is one of my favourite games, I can 100% support that choice as well

I would probably play the whole series once more at some point as I can't remember all the cool stuff in the game.

Been a while since I played Witcher 1, but I remember the combat not being very straightforward to learn.
If you can get past that and some jank, it's an amazing dark fantasy game, which I highly recommend!

Those that started the series with 3 might not enjoy 1 because of the combat.
I'm sure there's mods to improve the experience in many ways if you're into that.

I just want to play Witcher 1 & 2 so I can get to Witcher 3. 😋

That can at least give you an idea of some good mods if you want to make your own list or follow a different modding guide.

The Witcher hands down. First one is also the best of the three (and Witcher 3, while quite decent, is the weakest game of the series imo).

I'm not sure you're kidding or you're serious. Did you like the Witcher 1 for it's RPG slow-tactical game or?

Absolutely serious. Witcher 1 has that atmosphere of a good book, it's obvious that the creators put their soul into it. The quests are fun. The elixir making mechanic is the best out of three games. Even a random townsperson can tell you something unique so you should literally talk to everyone if you want full experience of the game. Despite it not having an open world, the immersion level is very high. Witcher 3, on the other hand, is a purely commercial product made with the sole purpose to make money. It has an open world, but it's filled with copypasted villages filled with copypasted villagers repeating the same phrases all over again, and not immersive at all. Kinda...soulless?
Witcher 2 is really good as well. It still retains a bit of that cosy Witcher 1 atmosphere and probably has the best story out of the three games, but there's a few annoying things like boss battles and combat in general.
So don't play Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 just to get to Witcher 3. Play them because they're great games in their own right.

I like Witcher 1's atmosphere, but I lack to have fun with the controls and mechanics of the game. It's a lot slower than the predecessors and that's what pushed me to pick other games while I kept hearing people to play Witcher series.

I need to form my opinion of it once and for all. But first, I gotta play it. 😅

You should play Half-Life at some point, just because it was a seminal game changer (no pun intended) in first person story telling, and it's a damn good shooter.
But of all the ones you mentioned, I would recommend Yakuza 0. The story telling in that is really good, has a lot of remarkable side quests, and I haven't laughed that much playing a video game in a long time. It's just a sweet fun time. It is a busy game, though. Lots f things to distract you from the main story, and a ton of mini games (that are really good).

As a side note, don't bother with Dead Space 3. It's not even a horror game anymore. Unless you have someone to play it in co-op, because the game gets 100 times better in co-op (both players see different things due to insanity effects).

It may be next on my list to play after Dishonored I think, as I need some simple, yet linear story to enjoy.

I've only heard of this franchise about 1 year and a half ago. I saw it kinda weird at first because most of memes and video's were showing fun things. But later on, I discovered the game's story is pretty good too, so I said to myself to give it a try.

I loved the first two so, I wanted to close the chapter and play the last one, even if I'm aware that it's not as good as the first two. I wonder if Dead Space will ever have a return, because it was such an interesting game series.

Honestly, I've heard a lot of wacky stuff about this series from people that I usually trust in regards to their taste of video games, and I held off of playing these games for years. A year ago I bought Yakuza 0 because it was was dirt cheap, and I was proven wrong in basically any expectation I had. There is a lot to it besided goofiness, the main story plot is near the quality of the best Japanese drama movies that I've seen, and the side stuff that is funny is the cherry on top that lightened even my darkest days. It really is something very unique.

I loved the first two so, I wanted to close the chapter and play the last one, even if I'm aware that it's not as good as the first two. I wonder if Dead Space will ever have a return, because it was such an interesting game series.

I will admit, I'm somewhat, or was, a huge Dead Space nut. I literally have everything that was ever sold of this franchise, books, comics, movies, merchandise, artbooks. I enjoyed the third game on my own, but it was a huge step down. If you want to complete the story, it is kind of a double edged sword. Because I felt a high ending the second game, and a lot of the characterization and lore got muddled and, some of it, even ruined by the third game. That's why I was saying you don't miss much. As a completionist, sure, go for it, but I felt very dissatisfied from a fan's perspective, especially since I enjoyed all the lore from the side media. And on top of that it doesn't end conclusively, which is a huge bummer. I will say there is still some good inventive stuff in it, that hasn't been done even in the first two games, but as a caveat, there is also a lot of cut and paste levels to artificially extend the playtime. If you go for it, I will say this: there is a great section after the rather action heavy introduction, and the end part is also pretty good. Just expect a lot of fluff inbetween.
And again I think the co-op mode is actually half of the fun. Since you really are missing half of the game playing it solo. Not in terms of the levels, but what the second person is experiencing. And that you also only get to know of if you have a second player. I played it with my sister, with two computers in one room, so we could basically talk face to face, and it was so much fun in some instances where we were literally shouting at each other because of what the other person was doing, since it was this kind of "asymmetrical" co-op (don't wanna spoil too much). It was my 2nd run, and it was so much more fun than the first go.

I could convince my wife to play it with me then. I've not played the two games in years and I forgot a lot of the things that have happened, but I could easily refresh my mind if I watched a YT video or something.

I would not mind if the game is not at the same level as it used to be, although I wish it did, I'm okay playing it.
