I want to make a giveaway for this game https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/6272/CHUCHEL_Cherry_Edition/
My problem is that the site list me no such option. It's either the main only game or the artbook+soundtrack dlc only. The key though has both the game and the dlc so I can't list it as either..
Now what? :P

I think you have 3 options :)

  • Create giveaway for the base game for reduced base game CV
  • Create giveaway for the DLC for full DLC CV
  • Create a support-ticket to have the Cherry-edition added - takes time

Ganja's post sounds about right. #1 will only give 1.5 CV; #2 will give 7 CV, but can only be entered by owners of the base game, and #3 as he says takes time. Maybe there's another option out there somebody can mention.

Personally, I'd go with #3. There's no real hurry and it means the next person can create a GA for the Cherry Edition.

Because of the way Steam works, we cannot add a "bundle". If you find a game (/app or /sub) on the Steam store, usually (not always) we can add it.

As Gaffi mentioned, they need an app or sub on Steam store, not on SteamDB.

There are many game subs on SG that not available in Steam store as a web page. Also, obviously all apps and subs on steamdb are also in the steam store, just not available as a web page, because, you know, that's from where steamdb gets it's data.

There does not appear to be a store page for that particular package (Steam does have a page for the bundle version), which I think is the problem in this case.

Hmmm.. Steam won't add a different page though .. So I don't think there will ever be a page package instead of bundle (those technicalities are not my specialty). There is no manual option to add something? Or some other solution? Because waiting steam will be forever :P

The database can be manually manipulated, but only by the admin, cg. And at that, it's a very uncommon thing.

What about games, removed from steam? They don't have page in steam store, and yet they were added to SG before.

I could very well be wrong - that's more a question for cg - but it may be that once added to the SG db, they are able to stay. i.e. no records are ever dropped, only added and updated when needed?

Well, I can't say for everyone, and I may remember it wrong, but I personally opened a ticket to add game that was absent in giveaway creation list, and was unavailable in steam for purchase, and it was successfully added. I, of course, don't know how adding games to list looks like on SG, but if for some reason it's impossible to add existing sub just because it does not showed as a web page in steam store - maybe SG should do something about it, because it's clearly limitation on SG's side.

Games that may not yet be released on Steam do show up in our database prior to release, though by default they are locked for creating giveaways until the release date comes. Likewise, when a game is removed from Steam, it is locked for creating giveaways, but it is still in the database. For those of us on the mod team who can make changes, it's a simple yes/no flag on an already existing record, not adding a record.

Actually adding records is normally done automatically via some process cg controls. Beyond that, I really don't have much more information to share.

That's actually a lot of information, thank you. Basically, anything can be added, but only by cg, and the rest of team can only enable/disable existing entries.

That and modify other details, such as reduced/free status. ;)

I did create a ticket as well. Anyone has any idea how long those take? I did a quick search but all I could find were posts from 3 and 5 years ago.. Hoping things have changed :P

As Gaffi wrote - it's not possible to add bundles to the giveaway list, as they are not available in the database. Only subs and apps can be added. Or more like enabled to be given away.

Bundles to not have fixed price that could be used to determine CV (it depends on how many items you already have in the library). I think that's the reason why we don't have them in the database. Also I don't know how it would be to check game ownership of the bundle, as SteamAPI does not report you own the bundle, but individual apps. And SG uses apps to determine if you own the game.

Manually adding entry to the database by cg would take no less than months. There were tickets to add this bundle to the database year ago. And I don't think they should spend time doing this kind of stuff, when it can be circumvent by making giveaway for base game or DLC. Same as there is no entry in the database for Just Cause 3 XXL, and users simply do GA for Just Cause 3 XL.

This comment worked better for me. Technicalities are not my thing and this I understood better :P

" I don't think they should spend time doing this kind of stuff" the thing is in either case it gives wrong CV as it is not a simple reduced main game nor just 1 dlc.. And that is unfair and somewhat problematic as if I make it dlc giveaway people will need to have the main game so it's a waste and if I make it main I get practically nothing in CV in comparison..

A suggestion (dunno if possible programming is not my thing): why not find a way to combine those sort of bundles separately? Meaning to make the algorithm check for 2-3-4-5 things instead of 1? Because I don't think that this and Just cause 3 xxxl are the only 2 cases on steam :P

These aren't the only cases, but there's the effort to implement it and the ongoing verification that it's working properly.

On the other hand the difference is small in this case, because the game was bundled as Cherry edition. Even if there was an entry for this on SG, it would be marked as reduced like the main game now and providing $2,55 instead of $1,50. Considering CV shouldn't be the main motivation to give away, but a nice bonus ...

If my motivation was purely CV I would had done maaaany things differently :)

Like you said it is a nice bonus which is why I'm asking. But without having said option there are other problems that arise depending on the game. If you add it as main you have people coming only for the dlc (some care some don't) and if you add it as dlc then you literally only giving the dlc and wasting the main game as you need the base game to enter. And some also like the CV. Now apart from that someone can simply ignore everything and make a different type of giveaway (direct in a thread) or simply find a person and pass along the key. But this isn't what this website is built for (going "rogue" :P ).
Also don't forget multi-dlc bundles or games like bioshock collection. In the first case you want to be sure someone doesn't have the base game AND some of the dlcs.. In he second one people giveaway 3 games as one.. And if the winner has it you need to send to support and IF they agree and blah blah blah.. Which is a crazy hustle for a GIFT.. Which is why I said that it is not only about the CV.. The CV is simply 1 part of it.. The "bonus" as you said.

I get the other issues and dislike them as well, but considering the effort I'd still blame Valve and not ask cg for it. :D

I didn't want to imply that you're only doing it for the CV. But somehow the bundled status for the edition was also missing yet, so I added that.

" but considering the effort I'd still blame Valve and not ask cg for it"
Valve is a company and only wants to make money.. It doesn't care for giveaways to external sites or whatever else.. And they also have their own "gifting service" giving them -1 reason to care for issues like these..
Because simply put it's not their problem :P
SG is not associated officially with steam so why would steam do anything about it? Makes no sense to me

Because their configuration/system is so complicated that employees and devs often enough do mistakes. Valve might not care about it, because they can afford it, sure. But in my eyes it's still their mistake in first place.

Maybe you can "escalate" that ticket somehow so that cg will notice it? Because there is an appropriate sub in steam, and there are keys in official shops that activate this sub. It's only a matter of adding this sub to SG database, so that it could be enabled, and only cg can do this. It has nothing to do with bundles. And maybe, since there is more than one case like this, cg will consider implementing some automatic way of adding such subs? It sounds much more productive than adding them manually one-by-one.
