Hello Steamgifters! It is that time again - adventure time! Join a great adventure with incredible amount of treasures!

Over 80 treasures are featured in the current Game!

All of us like playing games, and all of us like winning games. So, how about playing a game and winning games while playing?

  • Introduction

Game of sWords is a text RPG Adventure where you can explore dungeons (or other locations), complete quests, solve puzzles, find useful items, avoid deadly traps and fight dangerous monsters while searching for treasures (private SteamGifts giveaways links) on your way and trying to reach the end to get access to a huge amount of private giveaways! Each Game (of sWords) usually has a unique scenario and a limited number of winners, so the chances will always be great.

All giveaways have no restrictions, so anyone who finds them can join them!

Lots and lots of giveaways have been contributed by the community members, and I would like to say a big Thank You to everyone who made a contribution! :)

Here is the topic of the previous Game of sWords.

Here is the topic of the first Game of sWords.

  • Important notes about the Game

In the Game, you will have Energy Points and Health Points.
Most of the actions in the Game require Energy Points. Energy can be replenished using items, which you can find everywhere, thus it is important that you check everything around you!

Energy will also be replenished over time. Normally, you will receive 1 Energy Point every 15 minutes, and that time can be reduced with special artifacts that can be found in Game.
Note, that the Energy won't be replenishing during the battles (you can only restore it with potions)!

If you lose all your Health Points, you will also lose all the energy you had plus you will have to wait for up to 6 hours to be resurrected. (Basic Resurrection happens every 6 hours from the time the Game started - 16:00 GMT). The energy can not be replenished while you are dead!

Note: If you have problems navigating through the map, you can switch to Simplified Navigation at the bottom right corner.

I highly recommend to read this article for important Strategy Tips and general understanding of the Game :)

Also, make sure to read the FAQ, it has the answers to most questions you might have about the Game ;)

  • What's new in the current Game of sWords?

Current Game is a true RPG adventure with 3 classes, experience system and levels, multiple skills, wide variety of enemies with random encounters and huge amount of weapons, artifacts and items. There is 10 times more of everything than in the previous Game! The map is now twice as big as the one in The Secret Castle (previous Game), so you have to be ready for a long and dangerous journey! Make smart decisions, develop your character your way and lead him to success!

Current Winners limits: Barbarians:19, Mages:17, Thieves:24.

Winners get access to all giveaways available in the Game! (80+)

Everyone who finishes the Game after the limit is reached gets 1 random treasure as a consolation prize!

All giveaways end on the 1st of March!

  • Time to start the Adventure!

EVERYONE is invited to play the Game and search for treasures in the adventure! :)

The only requirement is that your Steam account should be more than 90 days old.

Will you be able to defeat the monsters, complete quests, solve the puzzles, face the mighty Dragon and claim his countless treasures? :)

I feel a bit dumb, but where is the "Check" option? My stats so far are 7 steps made, 0 checks made. I play as a Thief and the only things I see are "search dead bodies" or "steal coin from other players at the current location". There was also another option only on the very first location, but I chose to steal first and the other option didn't appear again after that.

Can you actually do a "Check" on every location in the game or only at select ones?

You can carry 1 artifact of each type - Head, Neck, Torso, etc. There are 7 types all in all. If you already have, let's say, a head artifact, and find another head artifact, you will be asked whether you want to take the new artifact instead of the one you have now.

You can do a check on almost all locations unless it's a crossroads that leads to all 4 directions. Which sums up: ~95%+ of grid spaces that can be checked at least once.

Magic staff. The default one and probably there are others as well. I have used it and I don't know when I can use it again.

Comment has been collapsed.

You probably mean Energy Drain - a special ability of a Mage. It recharges each 50 steps/checks.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yup, that's it. Maybe worth to put all the special class abilities in the FAQ as well. When you create the character, you won't remember many things after a few hours of play ;)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yup, I will do that :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Should probably also recharge after a death. It's 6 hours after all.. And it's the worst of the abilities because usually adventurers are with very low energy. Too situational compared to others unfortunately. First time I used it I only got 1 energy. It's bad.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It is a good idea to recharge the ability on resurrection. Actually, I have just made it recharge every time after death. That should make Mage's ability pretty valuable now.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

At least it's better than when Thieves steal 1-10 coins (which is completely useless compared to 1 Energy Point) :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You shouldn't compare it with that though. Why not compare it with 2 energy per 10steps + checks? :P There's nothing more OP than that. And thieves also get bonus energy per lvl up compared to other classes... Which makes even potions and phoenix vials more effective... Then all you have to do is buy EP potions from store and you're set for life (with the stealed gold too). :P It's really very predictable that thieves mostly finish the game fast. That 2 energy per 10 steps/checks should actually be per 50 steps to be normal.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not denying the fact that Thieves are pretty unbalanced which made the entire class thing a bit of a fail, I think there should at least be a way to request a complete restart of the game just for the sake of picking a new class. But yeah it's the first time the creator is experimenting with classes, it's just a shame that some people clearly seemed to get the short end of the straw (scrolls are way too expensive and half of them are practically useless, and everyone seems to be able to use all types of weapons, so mages never become profitable, and the barbarian is based on HP I think? But HP is completely abundant except for a certain key that serves as a drain I suppose.) For speed running the Thief is definitely unchallenged. I suppose it's because the tradeoff between Energy and Survivability is still a bit too one-sided in the game, but it's going in the right direction (compared to the previous game). I mean, all the energy in the world won't help you if your character isn't strong enough to proceed... it's just that currently, you can fully focus on energy and still skate through fairly easily.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes I know. It's very natural to have unbalance issues since it's the first time classes were implemented indeed. It's just that the gap feels huge. :P But I guess it can be compensated by picking winners from each class separately.

Game is pretty amazing and I do love it despite the super difficulty/bad luck I had early on as lvl1 (3 deaths in a row with almost 0xp) But I would also like to note that the energy-infinite thing was also a huge problem in the previous game too. And the shop and energy abundance was again the reason the event ended super fast. This time it's the thieves and the shop. I still believe that all aspects regarding energy should be hugely nerfed in order to make a game that will actually last long.

The only nerfed class this time concerning energy is really the wizard. The barbarian does get some extra EP after all through potions which is actually better than the mage's energy leech in practice. And getting 2 energy per 10 steps/checks along with the shop and the extra EP per level, is indeed asking for the game to end instantly no matter its size.... I want to see how many thieves will have finished it by tomorrow.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In the previous game you basically swam in Energy Potions. In this one at least they nerfed the base level of the potions, made them more expensive in the shop, put a cap on them and made them a bit more expensive. As a contributor I found more potions than others would've, but still ended up almost putting the shop out of stock by the end and only barely reach and defeat the boss in one go. Of course it's still messed up that it's possible to go from early-game to beating the game in less than 2 hours, and there's room for much more improvement, but it still improved considerably from the previous game and we're getting somewhere (IMO). :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The game is actually twice as large so yes, of course it improved. And many new things like stats xp and skills are of course amazing improving the experience considerably, including the artifact/equipment progression in the game ! I still think you swim in energy here too though, especially as a thief and I think it's been proven by now. Fact is you get enormous amounts of gold here, compared to the last game. So in reality you still buy endless potions even if more expensive. You should look at the ratio not the cost of the potion. I mean gold is so easy to hoard this time around. I don't even have to mention the abusing coin abilities this time.

A couple of years back I tried a text based fantasy MMORPG, but I can't remember the name, I think it was Materia Magica. I dropped it off, because the combat wasn't turn based and you have to manually write the commands for attacking. I'm a slow typer.

I don't even like D&D games but you managed to make this really fun for everyone. Your concept is working out great and compared to other indie releases on Steam this could have real potential if you can develop enough content :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Would upvote too. :) Next step would be to make animation sprites for the monsters, something like in legend of grimrock one day. The easiest part would be to get backgrounds graphics since it's the same on each grid. The hardest part would of course be the balance of the classes/skills etc. and the overall difficulty to scale smoothly with the levels, and of course much much content. :P

The bleed is so OP now. I suggest for the next game for the HP to regen 2 points for every energy regen

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Another suggestion would be for the bleed to dmg the player only for a fixed amount of max dmg instead of to the death. Bandages seem to be in short supply, potions healing it was kinda ok in last version.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's why you'll have to upgrade your resistance to bleeding.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well the FAQ does not state that bleeding lasts for specific amount of moves. So even if you raised the resistance you would still bleed to death correct ?? This makes it a useless resistance to raise frankly. Don't you agree?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Bleeding resistance reduces the damage bleeding causes. It is up to you to decide what resistances to upgrade :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But you will still die so what's the point? :P It would be useful if it would end at some point. (in a number of moves as poisoning or the others are)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Bandages are not as scarce as you might think :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe they are. However resistance to bleeding is still useless when you know that bleeding lasts to the death and not for a fixed time.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, getting 5.5% damage per move or 0.5% is quite a difference, I would say, so maybe there is a point in upgrading resistance.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well unless you get a bandage in the next few steps you are dead anyway. So the difference does not even matter as I see it. But I rest my case here. :P

I just started playing and this looks like fun, but I have a couple questions about health, energy, and death.

Is a health potion the only way to regenerate your HP without dying? In other words, if I don't have a health potion must I kill myself in order to get more HP to fight again? I see my energy going up every 15 minutes, but my HP remains the same. (Edit: Or does my HP regenerate every 6 hours when all the dead are resurrected?)

If you die, you lose all your energy and come back with 90% of your HP. When you come back do you start with no energy and have to use an energy potion or wait for it to build up again?

Do you lose anything other than your energy when you die? (Edit: other than coins that may get stolen)

Edit: I just came back from my first death and found out most of the answers. I didn't lose anything when I died except for my energy and some coins that were stolen. You do start off with 0 energy when you come back to life and have to wait to regain your energy before you can do anything.

Nice question, while waiting official answer from SErVER51, from my experience, maybe I know something:

  • First question: No, there are other way to get more health, at least for me, as a Mage, there is Regeneration Scroll. And in previous version of game-of-swords, there is a artifact help you increase health, very helpful, not sure about this version.
  • Other question, I never die in this version, so I don't know. But of course when you come back from death, I think you should have a mount of Energy to continue the journey.
Permalink

I just came back from my first death and I can confirm that you come back with 0 energy and you must wait for it to regenerate.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

- Items and Regeneration Scrolls are used to recover HP. It does not regenerate naturally over time. If you have low HP, you can check the surroundings to find some HP potions instead of killing yourself :)
- When you are resurrected, you gain 90% of you HP, but no Energy, you'll have to recover it with potions or wait for it to replenish if you have none.
- You don't lose anything except your Energy when you die (and some coins that might be stolen)

Glad you found out the answers yourself already :)

Thanks. I have another question.

This may sound like a dumb question but, does being blind reduce your accuracy? Can you hit at all? I was blind and ran into a fight. I tried to run but couldn't get away, so I fought. I tried to attack 5 or 6 times, but didn't get a single hit in before I died.

Some mechanics seem a bit flawed. For example how does the wizard raise his chance to hit with staff/magic weapon ? Does it raise with magic ? or does he need accuracy? In most games magic does not even miss in the first place. Scrolls are very scarce. To be honest I suggest thinking about tie-ing accuracy with the main stat of each class on future versions. Having to fully rest and heal after each angry turtle, seems a bit overkill atm. And base stat should probably be more than "1", even on lvl 1 to separate each class by being more powerful in one thing. As it is now it's better for the wizard to use ranged or melee weapons kek.

PS: Also found first treasure ever

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Accuracy increases hit pecentage for any weapon, including Magic weapons. Your character will grow during the adventure: now that your character is just a beginner, he might need to rest after most battles; later he will get more experienced and be able to endure more. All classes progress differently - some are better at start while others reveal their strengths and become much more powerful a bit later in the Game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Agreed though at this point getting even one level up may take days if not a week+. Unless lucky with weapon and stat drops, you can't progress at all in the beginning at least from my experience so far. Also unlucky with hp potions so I may die again in the next few steps, most probably. A simple regeneration scroll requires lvl 5 magic. (4 level ups? :O ) If that's not an overkill than I don't know what is. :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can upgrade your Magic level to Level 6 when your hero reaches level 2. You are exaggerating a little bit, but I agree that I probably should add some boost for a Mage at start.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Aha. Thought you'd get 1 point on level up. lolz. That's fine then, we will persevere. xD

I think I'll stick to non-mage beginner weapons however for the first level up. Cracked staff is goddamn an awful weapon...

Permalink

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nice. Am I correct to assume that mage does not get any bonus at level 1, with the cracked staff (magic att of 11), compared to any non-mage weapon with more attack, such as melee or ranged weapons with an attack of 15-18 ? Chance to hit is the same correct? Only those weapons deal more dmg.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I got lucky at start, after first fight found a better magic weapon 14 magic.
After 2nd fight 15 melee weapon, and now I have an 18 melee weapon and a 14 ranged as well.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Everyone has same stats at level 1 and chance to hit is always determined by Accuracy, which is 1 for everyone in the beginning.

As a Mage, you always deal 20% more Magic damage (not only with Magic weapons, but with any weapon that might deal Magic damage, e.g. some enchanted swords, etc. that you will find later), so you can add 20% to those 11 that your weapon deals now.

If, for example, you will find a sword that has 10 Attack value and 10 Magic value (~20 dmg overall), for you it will in fact be 10 Attack value and 12 Magic value (magic dmg) with your 20% bonus.

Got myself in the top 25 again after killing a faerie.

Yup, currently so. Barbarians grow really big and strong as they progress though, with their HP bonus and highest damage bonus, so we might see more of them in the top soon.
