I'm frequently browsing the forums and I haven't encountered any invisible replies.

It could be that someone posted something, then deleted it: you won't be able to see it anymore but SG still counts it in in the comment count

I don't think there is something wrong with the forum but sometimes people bump their topic by posting something and immediately deleting the post. That can get quite confusing and annoying occasionally.

Not sure if that's what you mean, but sounds like it. Though, apart from a few threads, I don't see it happening that often.
