A Gift URL for a Protoss vs Zerg?

Sure! PM me on Steam, and we can organize a SC2 game (I'm on EU)

Yeah, I bought one of those during their EXTRA SUPER SPECIAL happy hour. I got a copy of Skyrim & Mojang's Catacomb Snatch for about $4.99, and eight gift URLs for friends.

Humble Bundle after introducing 1$ barrier.
And I don't understand why Indie Royale and many others still call themselves "Pay what you want". It's not pay what you want if the minimum is not 0.01$.

It's not a fixed price. That's why.

Humble Bundle's way of doing things is my favorite too. Especially with the 1$ barrier, it reduces the Steam abuse. Plus having great games for the over average price will incite some people to donate more than they might have.

First Be Mine. $1 or more, no "over a certain sum" specials, fixed percent to charity, more content added at well defined goal points. (Well, Be Mine kind of failed there as they were pretty fluid, but in concept.)

  • no "over a certain sum" specials

Didn't you just contradict yourself?

1 decade ago

Comment has been collapsed.

Not at all. Take a look at the current Be Mine 2 bundle to understand the second. The idea is that when the bundle makes a certain amount of money total, new content is opened up. This is unrelated to individual sales.

Its like the Humble Gala with Goals

Goals are one thing which make it better for me. I don't like "we'll add random stuff at random points" that much. Not that I mind getting extra stuff, but I like it better when I know what we're working towards. (Like stretch goals for Kickstarters.)

Another thing I like better: no "beat the average". There are well defined price points, which don't change depending on when you buy. The first Be Mine bundle didn't even have different price points.

well, there are over a certain sum specials os Bemine2, killing floor and some other things, but i got what you meant

By the way, I'm pretty okay with the $4 minimum and the $10 extras of the Be Mine 2 bundle, because they're pretty well defined and the rest of the model appeals to me. And the games, of course. :)

I'd rather have a $2 minimum though if it's not $1, because at $4 I'm less likely to buy it as a gift. Because of this I'll end up paying less for the Be Mine 2 than I paid for 1.

Pay what you want like Hib with an ABT price for extra's.

I think its best like Indie Gala 1:

  • early purchasers (first 2 days) get all games for "pay what you want", but min. 1$ instead of 0.01$
  • after 2 days the price rise

Be Mine 1 is also ok:

  • pay what you want from begining + you get bonuses without paying more

Pay more than average = fail because people keep bumping it up, for example HIB Android 2 had an average of 7$ and no way i'd pay so much just for the bonus game (i already have other games). HIB became like Nike, Apple and similar...you just pay for the name. I also wish all money goes just to developers and organisators because we all know most of charity cash never reach the right people.

100 % agreed with you. Humble Bundle pay more than average scheme is now ruined by those (for instance gathering of buyers like Humble Bronies) who pay astronomic sums right at the beginning (of course this is good for the developers, but also biases the results right from the start, while if they were waiting a little bit wouldn't make the price go up artificially so fast, and would be fairer overall. Imagine when developers themselves (or even Bundle organizers) give high sums right at the beginning, it's after all completely beneficial to them, though quite questionable. So people who don't have much money are quickly set out of the race. This makes the average go to 7 or 8$ in no time and it rarely goes down. Previous bundles weren't like that. It's such a shame they've removed the pay what you want for the first hours or so of the bundle, because many people can't catch it right when it starts. This and the number of bundles that's increasing too much imho (it's quite a profitable business it seems).

I to also wish the people who want to put in thousands would wait a few days or so.

Indie Gala, where us early buyers got bonuses, like at happy hour, I could buy one bundle and get four.

I like getting four gifts for the price of one, but I still don't like the concept of getting different stuff depending on when you buy the bundle.

I definitely like the Indie Gala early buyer rewards. Since I'm always an early buyer. They probably got an extra fifty bucks out of me because of the 4 for 1 max gift bundles thing.

Should be a $500 indie bundle that has ALL of Steam's indie games in it.
I couldn't afford that, but I'd like that.

on-topic... HIB.

[edit] I do wish they'd bring back the source code bonuses though... :| I really miss that! [/edit]

I usually pay $3 or $4.I find beat the average thing annoying and its not pay what you want if you write , "Pay what you want , Min amount is $5 , Beat the Average $10 to get bonus games" That annoys me a lot.

You can make the argument that $1 min isnt pay what you want either but that can be used to cover paypal/middleman fees.

Selfishly, I'd say Humble Bundle's way. It's literally pay what you want.
Edit: of course, this is before the pay-more-than-average system. PMTA is fine but you better have none of the games and hope you can be the first buyer.

But, well, it's also a lottery. Most of the time customers pay, on average, 5$ (with Linux users paying about 7 for some reason (I'm guessing because there aren't many games on Linux and because if you use Linux you must already know the pain of developing a game))...
But you never know. One day everyone might just pay 1 dollar and HiB is going under. Or everyone starts giving the money to charity and developers and HiB can't run the servers anymore.

I do have to point out that from experience HiB makes the most profit, so I guess they're doing something right. Then again IndieRoyale and the rest are probably not as "famous" and people only go for HiB because it's the only one they know.

Finally, if you managed to bear with me all the way, I'd love to see a co-op only bundle. Filled with games that are only/mostly to be played with a few friends. We need more co-op nowadays.

You know the law of large numbers. The probability of everyone will pay only for charity is almost 0 when you sell 100 thousands items.

That's true. But changes happen... an over-the-top, overly awesome bundle could come out (how's about 10 AAA titles with 90 metascore for pay-what-you-want), and Humble Bundle is history. Well, we can't predict consumers' patterns, but what we can predict is that one day, Humble Bundle will have to stop: change of management, a rat in the servers... and that day (it could be after many, many problems too), Humble Bundle is done.

Let's hope the 7th is extremely good =)

pay what you want but you must pass certain point to get stuff like steam keys sounds ok to me

1 decade ago

I like Humble Bundle's system overall because it stays true to the "pay what you want" model even after the introduction of a $1 minimum for Steam keys (which was an awesome policy). I also like Indie Royale's system of hammering down the minimum/average price when people pay significantly over the average. It sounds complex and interesting. Unlocked extra content (Indie Royale and Be Mine bundles) is also nice. Indie Gala 2's three-tiered system was okay too.

I actually like IndieRoyale's best, but only because I don't like to see bundles getting abused by traders and dupe accounts for the holiday event (even at $1 it would probably be worth it to get keys).

I also like FaceKick's, bigger bundle for a higher price. Sometimes a bundle with 4 games is hit or miss, make it 8 games for $8..and it's harder to resist. In the end whatever supports the devs the most gets my vote (probably IR?)

I love getting more games if I beat the average and it not being a tier-based price system.
