SteamDB says the set was $18 last Friday, so they accidentally applied a double discount. It came out to $2 USD in my local currency and I had spare Steam funds, so I got them. I missed the bundle they were in.

Yeah I think you are correct, it's an accidental double discount. 80% off and then another 80% off, so the end result is 96% off of the original price.

They most likely wanted the bundle to be -80% after discount and/or treated it like a steam package.
They will also very likely make much more money thanks to this mistake, so no real harm done.

it happens when the deep discount makes one ore more products go below a certain threshold, the bundle is then hidden and unavailable for purchase in some regions. I tried workarounds but with no success (different bundle, different region, different time, but the same problem).

Seems they've changed it so you can't do that anymore. Cannot buy the removed game by itself, either.

Just so others don't do the same things I did.
You can't buy it if you own anything in the package. You can click purchase for myself but it won't work when trying to make payment
You can't remove the game you own and then buy it. It will give an error saying you previously owned some of the contents and you must restore it from support section
If you have removed the game you can't buy it from another account and gift it to yourself. It then gives an unknown error.
The only way I got it to work was to restore the game I deleted, and then purchase it as a gift from another account and then accept the gift. It gave an warning to say I wouldn't receive an extra copy of the item I owned, which I agreed to and it then activated. So yes you can get it for yourself but it seems like this is the only way.

I tried this, but I couldn't gift the game to my account when the game was in my account so I removed it and then I was able to gift it but then to activate the gift I got an error so I had to recover the game and then I was able to activate it with the message that I wouldn't get an extra copy for the one I already owned.

I can confirm, the way it works it just like he said.
Removed the game the own game (in my account, XXL 2), then buy from alt steam account, gift.
On main account cannot accept with unknown error, restore the game on main account.
Then you can received the gift.

XXL 1 and XXL 2 are really good 3d plateform, but these remake are just the same with some better graphics and pretty useless if you already play the original on PS2.
XXL 3 is preety mediocre and just a beat them up with any plateform gameplay (you can't jump)
So recommended only if you like 3D Plateform and you don't have play the original one.
The gameplay remind me Effie that you have on you're library.
