Guys, PLEASE check your giveaway winners for unactivated wins before delivering your gifts

You can use sgtools

I have stumbled upon this so many times, especially on public low level giveaways.

The number of people that don't activate their wins is staggering.

If you find your winner didn't activate previous wins (especially recent ones) - report them to steamgifts and ask for a re-roll.

Yes. You would submit under other and list the games. If they have not been punished for it yet, they will be suspended and you will be granted a reroll.

After 30 days from violation: re-roll denied

I've had requests granted even though instances of multiple wins/unactivated gifts had happened after the 30-day mark... provided the user had never been suspended before, that is.

Yes, I explain that here:

https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/EYNRh4X

The person I was responding to was specifically asking about situations in which the person had already been punished.

If a person has never been punished for a violation, then the time period doesn't matter. It's only when they've been punished already, that special distinctions get activated for the first 30 days and then after.

Oh dear, I totally failed to notice that... And that it was an 8 month old thread that came back from the dead. Damn. From now on, I will refrain to post early in the morning, before heading out for work because clearly, I was still half asleep. O_o

The thread was already revived by several other people a few days ago. That's the only reason I started to post, because the confusion is still a major issue. This thread is still very relevant and needed. Nothing has changed in eight months, since people still don't get that they should report EVERYTHING, no matter when it happened, and let support sort it out. That is the lesson.

sure, if they ended less then a month ago or if they didnt got punished.
but even if its few days more, you can have luck and get a reroll.

you can also blacklist him, if you rather give your games to innocent people^^

I've gotten people rerolled for non-acts that were well past a month old. As the this thread suggests, too many people simply never check. One user had 27 non activations across something like 2 and a half years of site use, and had never been suspended once.

Just, really... :/

Same here. I always contact the winner first, in case they want to buy the game they're missing (which has worked in the past, and then I don't have to ask for a reroll. Everyone's a winner!).

Winner has a non-activated win. Contact them, let them know the situation. They're like "I'm not going to get that missing game for your crappy giveaway." OK, cool. I'll eat the giveaway and give it to someone else.

Make another giveaway. Winner has a non-activated win. Let them know. "You have to send me the game anyway. It's been more than a month. Statute of limitations, bitch!" Nope, eat another giveaway.

Then I discovered sgtools, and FINALLY got to give the game away. But now I permanently have notifications telling me about unsent games.

Really though, I'd rather make public giveaways. SGTools giveaways don't show up on SteamGifts (because they're by necessity private), so not as many people enter. The general populace of SG is missing out because we lack the tools here.

Actually, one of the benefits of my checking even whitelistees, I've been able to help them catch both Steam errors and [giveaway creators giving them the wrong version of a game] issues.
Likewise, I've had several whitelistees that had won/bought the game and forgotten to remove their entry- it's not that I suspected them in any way of planning to multi-win, rather it was simply a matter of saving time on getting the reroll processed faster.

Following through isn't always about 'keeping the site trustworthy' and 'punishing wrong-doers'- it can also be about things like keeping a watch over the backs of your friends. :)

But mostly it's about my obsessive habits >.>

And, sure, maybe. But the way I see it, it's just a matter of whichever gets around to checking the ownership first. If it takes me a touch more time to check it, but saves a couple hours (or days) of wait, that's a plus on getting things sorted more smoothly.

I had a public level 5 giveaway, 10x copies.
Including the two rerolls, two thirds of the users had some sort of rule-breaking violation [though only two were recent enough for reroll].

Usually, I don't have any issues with 4+, or 2+ private (other than the occasional notably leechy ratio).
But sometimes.. well, level isn't always a guarantee. :X

I had to step up to 7+ on my last batch of public as several of my 6+ had rulebeakers amongst them. One had four multiwins and an unactivated win and I still couldn't get a reroll.

It is best to use SG Tools you can check manually but you will only get a re-roll if the violation has been within the last month other wise you will still have to give the key.Or at least that when it states when i click on re-roll and list of reasons.

That why from this point on i am thinking of going full SG Tool

8 months later and you point this out?

Also did you not read what I posted?

"at least that when it states when I click on re-roll and list of reasons"

I was going by what was posted within support when I went to do a re-roll.So maybe that has changed since then or maybe i misunderstood.Though I did now notice my typo of when and not what.

You can call me wrong all you want but I was just reposting what popped up when I was going to re-quest a re-roll.So if I am wrong then so was that at the time.In any case did you really need to reply to this just to prove me wrong lol.

No, you're right, but the wording of the re-roll language is wrong/deceptive/misleading, which is what I meant:

https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/EYNRh4X

I wasn't trying to prove a point, I'm just aggravated that this misconception is so prevalent, and cg won't change it.

They say they want us to report rule violations, but the very wording of the support selections discourages that.

Other people had already bumped and rekindled this thread, so that made it fair game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You just pointed out I was wrong next time share the why or how I was wrong instead of one-word reply of wrong. How else was I suppose to take that as just trying to prove a point of me being wrong with a one-word reply?

If you are aggravated with the misconception take it up with support and not me I was only repeating what I found doing a re-roll.I may have been passing bad info but it was from the source not from me just being ignorant

Like if a CEO announces something then you repeat it then later find out some things may have been wrong and then trying point out that the person who repeated it was wrong.I only repeated what was from the source regardless if they were wrong/miss-leading does not make me wrong if at the time what I repeated was what was said/posted from the source.

I mean I guess in a way it makes me wrong but not by default but because the info they shared was wrong to start with.
The wording may be wrong or misleading but, it's not just borderline can be taken another way in short anything past 30 days would be ignored I would take that as if the violation was older than 30 days they will ignore my re-roll request.

Anyhow thanks for necroing my reply lol :)

I found it to be true in the past when a few re-rolls were denied with the claim that the violations occurred outside of whatever the arbitrarily determined statute of limitations was. As I did not agree with that I bit the bullet and did not deliver the gifts and it's why I don't like to do completely public giveaways anymore sans assistance from SGtools. Not an ideal situation but it's the best and 'safest' option as far as I'm concerned. I suppose it's possible that policy may have changed since then though.

Here's the nuance that the wording of the support options doesn't make clear:

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I know what it is. The problem I have with it is that in my opinion I have found the so-called punishments here for such violations are a generally a joke and transgressors frequently get away with little more with a slap on the wrist at worst, all the while they are benefiting from said transgressions until such time that they are reprimanded (which could take months or years or may never come at all) and then continue to benefit again even after serving after what amounts to a weak suspension. I've said it before and I'll say it again: there are few if any real meaningful consequences on this site. Because of this (as well as the user report queue being what it is) I feel that re-rolls should be approved for specific violations such as non-activated gifts, multiple wins of the same item, and re-gifting regardless of how long ago it may have occurred or whether the user was 'punished' or not. Those would be my wishes as far as the type of people that I would like to reward - those who had the good sense not to have gone down that road. my 2 cents anyway...

I typically check the public giveaways. Not so much on the group giveaways.

Like others were saying, I think the unactivated win has to be within the past month for it to be valid reason for reroll. I had winner just few days ago like that and think it said unactivated within past month needed to be reason when investigating reroll. I tend to put a level restriction as well as use groups to help control those issues. It'd be nice if steamgifts would run a script comparing their win database to steam activations when they update member information each week.

Ha, I just did my first L0 giveaway in a long time. First winner had to be rerolled due to non-activated in past month, and about 5 or 6 in past year. The winner of the reroll also had about 5 non-activated, but not within past month so they got the key.... Kindof frustrating ;-)

With 5 non-activated, you should request a reroll too because they'll get a perma anyway.

Only half wrong I think. If they have already been punished for it, then there is no reason for reroll. But you will only find out after support has answered the ticket.

I think they've changed the reason in the reroll request box now vs. 8mos ago. It now says something like "non-activated wins" and not just "non-activated win within the past month" like it used to say.

I have gotten rerolls on nonactivated outside of one month.

No, unfortunately, it still says "Did Not Activate Previous Wins This Month". :-(

The "This Month" part should be removed, and they should add text or another dropdown for Multiple Wins.

It should say something like:

"Did Not Activate Previous Wins and/or Has Multiple Wins Of Same Game"

I have this on occasion as well. SGTools says the profile is private, but I can view it from a web browser manually. Sometimes SGTools will display multi-wins, but then claim profile is private for non-activation checking. It's a pain.

I haven't come up with a solution other than to try again later, but I know that's annoying when you want to finish up your GAs. Do bear in mind, though, that you have seven days to send out keys/gifts, so you don't have to do it straight away if SGTools is being awkward.
