Hi!

I did 9 givaways already but from the time of around the 5th, my giveawayed value does not increment anymore.
I did something wrong or it's a bug? I cannot find any information about it in the faq. Maybe some games does not count?

Tx for answer!

Games from bundles have limits to their contribution.

I'll give you a hint: Bundle Games maybe?

Did you pay $50+ for the lot? Bundles are what's doing you in. You'll get a % if you give away regular games.

Did you manage to spot those little asterisks next to the title of the games you were giving away? That means they were bundle games. Search the FAQ for bundle contributor value calculation. Cheers.

This system sucks! I didn't get any contributor value for Bit. Trip. Runner and it was Steam gift not key from bundle. It was bought god damn it! Fix this system already!

The system works and you only gave to private groups, so why complain?

So what if he only gave to private groups?

He probably needs the contributor value to enter public giveaways, so why should he win more when he doesn't give back?

There ARE private and group giveaways that are limited by contributor value.

Additionally it is possible that his private giveaways are "chat only" (might even be SG general chat) or "forum only" or puzzles.

Also, calling any giveaway that has a contributor value limit "public" is a bit iffy.

I do see some rationale in your argument but I am on the fence on this issue and tend to favor the idea that it is a generous thing to do any gifting (assuming you are not creating giveaways for 1 or 2 people, or fake giveaways, just to boost your contrib) even within the context of a group. There is just too much grey area here.

Edit

Just saw that his giveaways are all for a group, and a group that looks like it is geared towards advertising a game of some kind at that. I will grant that in this case, this guy really has little room to complain.

Please consider my earlier comments reflections / meditations on private/group giveaways in general.

Yeah, it is something other when he gives to different groups or make forum giveaways but it's unfair when someone never made a public giveaway and got all his contribution value from private groups wins a public contributor giveaway only because he got the high value from groups.

If you contact SG support with proof that you purchased Bit Trip Runner, or at least that it was a gift copy (not a bundle key), they will give you full contrib value for it.

Wow, sounds like a waste of SG Support Staff time, I rather let the person be pecked apart by SG Forum vultures =p. SG, a gift not a right, if you don't like it move along <= my way of thinking.

Which is why people that contribute games should be respected, because gifting is not an obligation anyone has. So, if someone spends more than indie bundle price on a game, they deserve the minimal recognition and benefit that contributor value provides. Thus it is not a waste of SG Support time if we follow your method of thinking: "SG, a gift not a right."

There would be no SG without the gifters.

I got no Contributor value for nearly anything from the Potato Sack bundle and I don't whine, so you should stop it too :P

I'd be surprised if you spend more than $10 on those games. You have been generously awarded with $30 contributor value.

If you're searching for sources of suction, look no further than the man in the mirror...

Mostly the bundle list is really good, but I hope the games from the humble bundle will finally be removed, because you can't give them away alone.

Humble Bundle games can be given away, it's just not allowed (or recommended). People abuse the Humble Bundle and the reduced contributor value is the best against this.

It's not possible to give away single games of the whole corebundle and that's what I meant, Herr Brotbaum ^^

Sometimes it comes as separate keys.

Yep but we get unscrupulous people who giveaway the whole bundle key under the title of the game that will give them most contributor... Look at a graph of the giveaways over time for Amnesia and you'll see it had lots of giveaways around the time it was on HiB 4 (?).

I know it isn't possible, Herr Raptura ;) but people are giving the bundle key as one game (e.g. Metro 2033) away and get the full contributor value for it. That is forbidden but I don't think people care as long as they get the game, they don't report him because they got the game. Then the giveawayer gets away although he broke a rule and even get the whole contributor value for it.

Bundles always have some games that i don't need, but to totally nullify their value is a bit unfair. I understand the system now, but i still think at least a bit portion of the original value should be added when gifted, even though they are bundled games. They are still fully playable games.

They're not nulled. You get them when you contributed more non-bundle games.

1 decade ago
Permalink

You still get some of the value from your bundle games by giving non-bundle games. IF you give more non-bundle than bundle games you will actually never notice the value cap.
