From their Twitter,
"S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation will receive a free upgrade to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition on May 20, 2025.

New shaders, lighting, textures, gamepad support, Steam Deck, Steam Workshop, and more."

In a reply, they mentioned:

"If you have old games, you will get all three games for free. But it will be another product, not an update for the old games.

So, eventually, you will have the Original Games and the Enhanced Editions.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chornobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chornobyl — Enhanced Edition
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky — Enhanced Edition
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat — Enhanced Edition"

The Enhanced Editions were released just today. They also have steam achievements.

Those reviews are... not good

Reviews are a damned mess because of review boosting based on the original games, the goodwill of the devs and to honor a dev who passed away in the fights against the invading Russian army, while there is also review bombing for cutting out Russian language and "being political".

There are some proper reviews about performance and features, but it's in the minority. At least with the first game I'd wait for the reviews to clean up, if you didn't get it for owning the original games, and planning on buying.

Uggg. Thanks for checking. It's true, the reviews are a mess

from what I saw it was actually the whole front page of reviews complaining about performance, and barely any russian related things

You have to switch the language to Russian to see what adam1224 is talking about.

Yeah I mean I just had a quick look when I saw it got released, think it had less than 100 total reviews at that time. I'm not a tiny bit surprised that russians are gonna reviewbomb it but there were a lot of genuine negative reviews when I saw it

Same. All the reviews I looked at just recently were about poor performance and a lack of graphical options to toggle things on or off.

Even in English there was at least one review that called removing russian language "political".
Invading a sovereign nation is also kinda political, but this is the level of current reviews in quite a few cases.
(On a slightly different note, the praising of the games without actually playing is just as misleading)

Also, there has been 6 hours for the reviews to get a bit better, it can count a lot around release :)

Steam is infested with this kind of behavior, sadly. Just a bunch of trolls and Russian government apologists.

Does that also mean that if you activate keys for the stalker games after this initial release you'll still gett access to the enhanced editions?

I think so. Looks like they added the enhanced edition to the old subs.
They didn't add it to all collections though. You have to know which sub it is and check with SteamDB.

Yes, I just bought keys for all the games and automatically received the enhanced editions.

That's good to know, I wonder if it has to do with older batches of keys and new ones will be separate packages eventually, though highly unlikely. Thank you for the heads up!

Judging from reading reviews they're trying to make it fit for modern audiences by blurring the historical Soviet Russian aspect. While understandable for an Ukrainian studio such historical distortions are too Orwellian for me.

So in the original, during the firefights, NPCs on both sides shout things in Russian(I assume it's Russian - I don't speak it)
Played a bit and that's all gone. Feels dead
The currency in inventory used to be "RU"(I assume rubles) now it's "SD"
Along with many other examples in reviews(blurred Soviet posters, removed Russian language) it feels this is more of an attempt to take a jab at Russia than actually bring an improved version of the game.
The result is an inferior game with political overtones and new graphical options very poorly integrated

When hating Russia one shouldn't forget the ultimate sacrifice by the "voluntary" liquidators from other Soviet Russian Republics. Without them the catastrophic explosion of the nuclear reactor would have had even more serious consequences for huge parts of Europe.

One should always differentiate between population and government of a nation. You may hate the regime while still respecting the nation's people.

The original game had Russian voiceover, was written and voiced in Russian, and that's all gone - also, now the Soviet posters were blurred etc
You're altering the original product. That's not "Enhanced edition", that's a "remake"
Which is sad given you neglected the games for decades, only to change the title spelling, do some political/language changes, slap some "modern" graphic filters and throw them out there
These might be the games with the most amount of mods to fix the original to a playable state. I'll wait for the mod community to restore the original audio/ fix the blur issues/ other technical problems and give it a go

Was the original ever called S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of ChOrnobyl?
I always thought it was called S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of ChErnobyl?

The original used the Russian spelling "Chernobyl", the remake uses the Ukrainian one "Chornobyl".

From the reviews and what is said on this thread it might have been made only as a way to say they dislike Russia still and remove all Russia related content from the game - which might be a decent amount (not sure never played or owned them before)

yeah, it also added the achievements (which the originals didn't have and was kinda the reason I skipped on it) tho and I've been getting into achievement hunting for the last couple of years

as for the whole Russia deal, I honestly don't give a shit and it's understandable on their part to say the least - as long as the game itself is good. which, by the looks of it, still needs some patches of improvement right now

Stalker fan here.
The sole upside of the remaster is Steam Deck support and the addition of achievements. In every other aspect, it’s a downgrade: the visuals are heavily blurred, old bugs persist while new ones have surfaced, and all references to the USSR—Soviet posters, certain buildings, and wall art—have been excised. The Russian voice-over is gone as well. Even offering it free to owners of the original can’t salvage such a slap-dash release.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VEdASIiwfA

  • Turn motion blur all the way down
  • Depth of field off
  • Set Antialiasing to FXAA
  • Set Anistrophic Filtering to max
  • Disable Global Illumination (disabling this allows you to enable SSAO)
  • Set SSAO mode to HBAO, and SSAO quality to High
  • Enable FSR Sharpness and set it to max
  • set FSR to Native

additional/alternate step

turn anti aliasing off

  • In AMD Adrenaline (AMD's GPU driver) I enabled "Radeon Image Sharpening" for the game
and set it to 100%. Nvidia Control Panel should have the option for sharpening as well but
it's been a couple years since I used it so I'm not sure what they call it.
