Character Booster – Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure.

Anyone else think this is an incredibly bad feature? Or is the story and puzzles, and non-RPG gameplay good enough to make an interesting casual adventure?

Its optional for the newbs. Its not like they are forcing you to use it.

At least this "feature" wasn't packaged as additional DLC $$$...

This is how I see it. It's free, and it's not forced, so there's nothing to complain about. The only possible reason to complain would be if they worked on this instead of some other feature like graphics overhaul, but I seriously doubt that.

Also, the main reason it's in there is because FFVII can be incredibly grind heavy compared to modern day gamers, so they want something to draw in the people that aren't just buying it for nostalgia.

I'm pretty sure people will only be buying it for nostalgia anyways lol

But their are better ways to make it less grind heavy than giving you everything.

Not without fundamentally changing the game. This pleases everybody since if you want to ignore it, it's still the exact same game before.

I don't think you understand how pissed so many people would be if they so much as change how much experience a single enemy gives. I haven't checked, but I'm sure they even left in the glitches/exploits that people grew up with.

I won't be using this feature... but it's true that if there was a +25% to gil/xp, etc I may use something like that to make it less grind-intensive... although I don't typically mind the grinding part, but since I've beaten this game a number of times... it would be kind of nice to not have to as much this time around.

As Dovecoon says, it's completely optional. It isn't something I'd consider using, but if it makes the game a more enjoyable experience for even a handful of people, it's worth including. The rest of us are free to ignore it :)

Cant you just hack your save file if you really wanted to? I know you can on the regular pc port, why would you pay for it? I don't know why you would bother with it, but if you did...

It's a single player game and it's a completely optional feature. Other people using it doesn't effect you in any way, and if it's something you yourself don't want to use, you just don't use it. What's the problem?

All it does is condition players to use the easy way out. Everyone should play the game the way they want to, but if you put a "press here to win" button directly into the game even the slightest discomfort will be enough to make you press it. It just teaches new players to not even try.
It's a completely different beast if you have to edit saves for it or just press one button.

The game is easy enough to even think about using the boost to cheat.

This is very rampant on android RPG games. First time seeing this kind of milking? Also this kind of IAP might also apply for Agarest sadly

What do you mean "milking"?

I have the impression that square enix is putting an option to let players buy in-game stuff for money, Am I wrong?

As far as I know, it's completely free.

I take back my statement then. I thought it's gonna be an In-app purchase (IAP)

You're wrong... this allows you to get all the free gil you want... so there would be no need to buy in-game items with real money...

good to hear that. I hope agarest follow square's enix path.

It's a great "shortcut" for when you want to buy that expensive pass for Gold Saucer. Seriously, i don't want to gather that amount of gils AGAIN :/.

I think releasing a "Grind less" mode that rebalanced XP, AP, and Gil would have been a better option.

That feature on a not even difficult game is just depressing. What happened to actually PLAYING games?

It's a terrible idea. I mean, you don't have to use it, but... What's the problem with the gamers now? Are they really want just "push a to beat the game" games now? Just look at how many problems the beginning of Super Metroid for Wii U caused. Now this. Gamers are getting really lazy now, watch a movie if you want just the story.

I agree, if you suck at games, this feature isn't going to make you change your mind and buy it.

Honestly they should've did a preorder event and let people who preordered it test the game, and submit feedback, it seems many people are riled up not only against this, but the music as well, both of which seem easy to fix.

As the core of FFVII is a pretty easy and straightforward game, the only people who could find this feature useful are the perfectionists who want to beat them ruby and emerald weapons (they are haaard, man). Funny enough, those are the kind of people who would never ever use it though.

I remember the joy of beating those 2 Weapons without cheating, it was an accomplishment! Had a friend over and we were so excited to see Emerald just turn to that red polygon shade and then hear that victory music! :P

I think it would detract from major victories over tough bosses to have your party "boosted" to easy mode.

Are you kidding me? I haven't finished it on my PSP but I managed to reach the end part by just training a lot.

As someone who has done his time, spent ages levelling, has a complete stat-max party save and thinks that grind doesn't necessarily make a game - I think it's a good idea.

However, if it's a first time player it does essentially remove a lot of challenge. Especially since, with FF7, a lot of strategy can be derived from good use of materia as opposed to simply grinding (certainly until most of the optional challenges I see no reason to deliberately grind - for new players, Materia Keeper maybe?)

Thus, I think it'd be a better idea if this were an end-boss completion unlock. But, sadly, then people would just hack their own trainers - so I guess Square-Enix are just cutting out the modding-middle-man?

I had a friend who, years ago, decided he wanted to play a Final Fantasy game for the first time. I let him borrow Final Fantasy X. (It might not be regarded as the best FF ever, but it was the newest at the time, it was all I had, and I'm sure that the current-gen graphics helped keep him interested.)

He enjoyed it a lot and managed to make it all the way through to the final boss fight, which he couldn't beat. He'd mis-configured his Sphere Grid really badly, opening various locks and totally butchering some of his characters -- I went to his house, and I couldn't even beat the fight for him, since his characters were so messed up.

At this point, he just wanted to be done with his game. He'd worked his way to the end of his first RPG and his first Final Fantasy, and just wanted to kill the last boss. If there was a Character Booster built in to that game, I think that would have been a fine time to use it. Not everyone is great at RPGs, and not everyone enjoys being forced to grind when they're trapped at a hard boss.

I think it's basically Square's way of saying, "If we remade this game today, we'd probably make it a bit easier, or have it hold your hand a little more. People have been hearing about how good this game is for 16 years, but if you aren't a die-hard RPG fan, you might not really enjoy the style or the grinding, and the last thing we want people to do is have a bad experience with the most beloved game in our series."

Plus, some of us have beaten it multiple times and just want to relive the game in easy mode. I can tell you that if I ever replay Final Fantasy 8, which I'd love to do for the story, I don't want to ever draw another fucking spell as long as I live.

I thought the Sphere Grid system was pretty bad, since you need to replace most of the nodes to get maxed out characters and that requires a lot of farming.
