It does say they will have 'full access' to games though. Hmm..

Exactly why I asked.

I don't see what's stopping them from hacking again and/or creating a new account.
But then again I don't think Valve has ever believed in IP bannings (only account ones)

BTW, since when does GameSpy host images on DropBox?

They don't. The image is sourced from the Steam Forums post.

Yeah I'm on board with that one... Money is money, why deny them the option to keep spending?

You think steam would want them to buy things.

Valve never stopped people from playing if they were VAC banned.

And i dont like this policy at all.If you phish or try to scam you no longer have the ultimate consequence of losing all of your games which sucks for every normal player out there.

This is not the same as VAC banned. This is having your entire Steam account banned. Now it's just "restricted". I've had both.

Four months ago or so, Valve announced they would be making this "transition". It's all due to Origin or Valve would not care.

I remember someone posted this in chat a few days ago showing how those restricted account messages look. Same link as in the article. Was surprised but not a bad change.

Yes, I do not know why, though. Valve Support only respond in canned messages.

They shouldn't have been able to lock people out of games they legally purchased in the first place. But at least this is a step in the right direction.

Actually Valve ninja-edited this into their terms of service a few months ago, before Origin did. It's only now that people are noticing it.

Origin sucks because it is trying to compete with Steam. EA just looks at the cash value of something not player Experience or useability (as we seen in there games) I will always stick with Steam that is why I quit my Origin account and deleted it :D

I see no problem with letting people play the games they legally bought. If someone cheats in a game and gets caught, no reason to lock them out of their account, (when did they start this anyway? first I heard of it...). Now if someone is a proven scammer either via trade or by using paypal fraud or w/e then thats another matter. Also, they should still be banned from playing vac secured servers at any rate.

So, if I join an online game you play, and cheat to my hearts content, you're fine with that... ?

Also, they should still be banned from playing vac secured servers at any rate. Please do try and read an entire post before you rush off and reply. Yes I know its difficult to get the concept through that pony filled skull of yours but please try. No reason to cut access to legally purchased games because you cheated in a MP game. If Im playing a none secured server, its kinda not going to be surprising that there will be cheaters which is the point of playing on secured/protected servers.

Have him send a detailed support ticket with the exact date he was banned, what he was banned for, the last game purchased on the account, the first game purchased on the account, the dates of both those purchases, his mother's maiden name, the name of the account, a link to the account's profile page, the email the account was registered with, the full credit card info of the latest credit card to be used or full paypal info, a link to the updated TOS explaining this change, a request to have his games access restored, and any other unique identifying information.

lol...so if somone is cheating, they just get their account locked and can cheat forever? thats how i understand it

1 decade ago

"banned players now experience "account locking" rather than full-fledged banning", game account locked (only game cheated) not all games.

1 decade ago
Permalink

This has nothing to do with VAC bans (cheating). This is related to account deactivation (fraud, chargeback). If you get banned by VAC, you'll still lose access to VAC protected servers in Multiplayer games. This is how it has always been.

...

So, cheaters can continue cheating in the games they cheated at... ?

All you now loose is your "identity" if you hack...

Seeing as how hackers really don't give a crap, this is effectively the same as:

Valve has announced that cheating is now allowed in all their games.

No, this is isnt meant for VAC but this is meant for disabled accounts.

Your account doenst get vac'd if e.g. a purchase went wrong, but Valve locks it. That means you can't acces it, but with this change of terms you still can.

dat interpretation

1 decade ago

Great news! I mean cheaters still get punished, but they don't lose what they've rightfully paid for. Makes perfect sense.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

From what I read there, it seems Valve is referring to the account bans (fraud, chargeback, account hacking, etc) rather than VAC bans (aimbots, server hacks, etc)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly what I think.

VAC Ban =/= Account Ban

The news is about the Banned account on which you could not even login, the Vac Ban will still exist.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This is good, not that I condone cheating, its just that Valve were way too harsh, limiting the account is a good punishment. Even if they do cheat, that shouldn't justify taking away psosibly $5000 worth of games.
