Hey hey everybody!

So I'm home for the holidays for the first time from the military(navy), I got my desktop PC back after a year of not using it and I found some issues and maybe someone here can help.

I had an issue where it constantly rebooted and found that the issue was the RAM. The ram was at 1600 and the cpu only handles 1033. I always thought it just used the ram at a lower, more appropriate speed but I guess it just simply couldn't handle it anymore. I replace the ram with a generic brand at 1033 and boots just fine. If anyone thinks this is strange please let me know.

My current issue now is my brother gifted me an ASUS PG348 and I currently have an R9 280X. I know it's a 1080p card but I was wondering if getting another would help stabilize use for the monitor or if I should just get a new gpu altogether.

avoid crossfire and sli, they are only good for trowing away money and bring more problems than benefits.

besides that card should be able to 1440p 30FPS any game.

1.Supports 2nd/3rd Generation Intel Core i7/ i5/ i3 Processor; Supports Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology; Supports Hyper-Threading Technology

2.Memory: 4X DDR3-2800+(OC)/2400(OC)/2133(OC)/1866(OC)/1600/1333/1066 DIMM Slots, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, Dual Channel, Maxi Capacity up to 32GB

Your Mobo is capable enough for that ram.

If 1 year stay untouched with the 1600 sticks only I can thought about

Could be needed a clean?
Bad RAM/CPU/GPU OC values (If you are using 1033 MHz Overclocked at 1600 maybe you have wrong power/speed values) (My bet is this)
Not enough power / Bad power supply
Corrupted Stick

maybe you have wrong power/speed values

That's what I was thinking, that the voltage setting on his mobo was wrong for that RAM or not auto-detecting properly.
Either that, or like you said, a bad stick.

You definitely need a better GPU. If you buy another 280X, they'll consume way too much power. And R9 2xx series have terrible Crossfire support, to be honest it's because most games have terrible optimizations for AMD Crossfire settings.

I recommend getting at least a 1070.

Damn. Well at least they'll be significantly cheaper when I come back next time. I was thinking of switching over to nvidia anyway. I got a gaming laptop with an nvidia gpu in it and it's so amazing.
