Alien Breed Trilogy - Working Co-op?

It's on my wishlist, and I'm a big fan of co-op games because I get to play it with my girlfriend.
One thing that intrigues me is if the co-op feature of the game is still working.
Also, do I need to have two copies of the trilogy to use the co-op play in a sense that it is not a local co-op?
I also wonder if my dual controllers (Power Pad II) work on this game and not those games that are picky with controllers.

Co-Op is still working. You can't play the story in co-op, tho. Each game has its own co-op level/s.
